The rapper of rookie group Fiestar Yezi has released her first Maxi Single/Mini Album. Yezi is the first member of Fiestar to have a solo debut as it was most anticipated after her time on Unpretty Rapstar. Now before I get into the review, I have two questions. Was this project enough to quench the fans thirst and has Yezi made herself known as "THE" female rapper at the moment?
I love Fiestar and I am a big fan of Yezi. I knew she would make great music on Upretty Rapstar but I was waiting for what was to come next. I finally got what I wanted, a Yezi solo debut. The title track is called Cider. The entire album is produced by Rhymer and keeps a cohesive sound. None of the tracks feel awkward or out of tune with the others. Cider is about Yezi dissing and acknowledging her haters and those who said she would not amount to anything. Those that said she should conform and just be cute because that's the easy Road. Yezi lives up to the expectation of being "Hardcore" and "badass".
The lyrics hold no punches and even though she doesn't flat out say names, you can tell who the people are just based on the past few months. The next track is The Moon which was co-produced by ASSBRASS who also helped compose songs on Verbal Jint's latest album as well as Unpretty Rapstar 2 songs If It Wasn't For Music and Me, Myself, and I. This honestly sounds like Zico and Mino's Okie Dokie. It actually sounds too much like it. Its a great song but I wish she would got a feature from Zico and Mino. It would make this song 10 times better. Its a great song nonetheless.
The third track is called Ceh Ceh Ceh or Sse Sse Sse. It features rappers Gilme, Ahn Soo Min, and KittieB. I enjoy this song a lot. You have three of the strongest rappers on UPRS2 and rising rapper Ahn Soo Min. The lyrics are great but what I really enjoy is the trading verses. Everyone gets a verse as well as extra lines after each rappers verse. This song was well composed. The beat is good. It goes hard without too much bass as compared to the final song Crazy Dog but it has more creativity to it. Crazy Dog is my second favorite song after Cider. The beat goes hard, very hard. I can workout to it, dance to it, turn up to it, and drive to it. Yezi's verse was great of course and unlike most people, I enjoy San E's verse. I can go without his ad libs. San E didn't need to be on the track but its an added addition. Now I don't have to dream about these two making a song because I already have it.
Now to answer my questions from before. Upon the first listen I actually didn't like it. It took me more listens to fully enjoy it. This does quench my thirst or at least for now. Fiestar is having a comeback next month so I'll be getting more Yezi in a short time. Yezi already made the statement "watch me", but with this she saying that she isn't going anywhere. As a debut Maxi Single or Mini album, I have to rate it a strong 3.5/5. It has lots of replay ability but I know she can do better. At this time we can only let her mature as an artist.
