Ant-Man: The Underrated Villain

Hank Pym often gets recognized as a member of the Avengers. He's viewed as a hero by the people. What if I told you Hank Pym wasn't a hero? What if I told you that Hank Pym was a villain? What if I told you Hanks' alter ego Ant-Man was actually one of the greatest super villains of all time? What if I told you the only thing stopping Hank from world domination is Hank? Hank believes his life is marked by failure after failure and that's caused several mental break downs, and his best friends to be ants. But if Hank stop pretending to be a good guy and switched sides like he was destined to be then he would feel a lot better in the morning. I think Hank is an interesting character, I really do. But he's a horrible hero and his intentions aren't always good. Even when they are it usually turns out bad. Hank continues to believe that he's a hero but he's been a villain for a long time and he didn't even know it. As soon as he admits it he'll be much more successful in the villainy game. Lets take a look at Hanks life as a villain that he's so adamant about denying.

Ultron is the Avenger's greatest foe. Ultron is a threat to humanity and the Galaxy at large. Ultron has killed thousands and spent years trying to kill the Avengers. But what if I told you Hank Pym created Ultron? Ultron was originally going to be a robot to help Hank with his lab work. However, Hank is a habitual screw up, we'll talk more about this later. Hank decided that the best thing to do would be to use his own brain waves to create an artificial intelligence for the robot. Due to Hank's jealousy of the other Avengers Ultron aims to kill them. Ultron also wants to kill Hank to marry wasp. If Hank was a hero this has to be one of the biggest screw ups in superhero history. But that's not Hanks only robotic screw up. Ultron has also brainwashed Hank more times than Superman has been brainwashed. All because he wanted a lab assistant.

Actually it's not that bad. Sure Hank created Ultron. But Ultron created the hero Vision. That has to offset some of his evil doing. WRONG! Vision went and married Scarlet Witch and they had some cute little magical babies. Then Vision lost all of his emotions and Scarlet Witch slowly went crazy. This lead to Hawkeye dying. HANK PYM KILLED HAWKEYE. Then the Avengers broke up. This all goes back to Hank. You can trace 53 percent of the bad things that happen in the Marvel universe back to Hank Pym.

In one mission Hank wants to prove his strength so after a villain had been subdued Hank invented the donkey punch. He knocked the villain out with a sucker punch from behind on live TV. Well, now everyone thinks the Avengers is just a bunch of A Holes. So of course Hank started feeling inadequate again (are you noticing a trend) this leads to him creating a new robot. This robot would attack the other members of the Avengers, only for Hank to save them and redeem himself. Why did he think this would be a good idea? But it doesn't end there.

Hanks wife Wasp tried to stop him because despite the fact that she isn't a genius she realized this is the stupidest thing Hank has done since creating Ultron. How did Hank respond to his wife disagreeing with him? He backhanded her as if he'd been taking pimping lessons. That's not even the worst part. Hank released the robot anyway but he couldn't even defeat it. That's right, another killer robot Hank created that he can't stop. Eventually Wasp comes to the aid of the Avengers and stops the robot. Hank didn't even thank her or apologize about hitting her. He was just worried about his reputation as a hero. If he was a villain these would have been great actions to make people hate him, but no, he wants to be a good guy. That's not even the end of Hank's domestic abuse problem. This man needs help.

In the Ultimate universe Hank is even worse to his wife. After Wasp saves the day Hank tells her that she should have never made him look small. C'mon, your name is Ant-Man, you made yourself look small. She stands up for herself and he tells her "Don't make me do this again," just to show he has a history of beating her. But this time she shrinks down and flies away attempting to hide from Hank. When Hank finally finds her he sprays her with a can of raid meant to kill bugs, telling here "This probably feels like napalm on your skin." Eventually he gets tired of spraying her and he sends his ants to kill her and end their relationship once and for all. Yes, Hank is a woman beater and murderer in two different universes. But he still thinks he's a hero. This is who you choose to give a movie to Marvel? You better portray him as a woman beater. Don't bother trying to make him look like someone kids can look up to.

I wish this could be the end of all the things. In the non ultimate universe Wasp/Jan eventually gets back with Hank. Until he cheats on her with an intern. An intern that turns out to be a Skrull. That's right Hank had sex with a Skrull. Eventually the Skrull kidnap Hank and replace him with a Skrull. That Skrull then helps Reed Richards and Tony Stark build a robot Thor for the Civil War. That robot Thor killed Hanks only friend Black Goliath. Then the Skrull implants Jan/Wasp with a Skrull weapon that kills her too. Only for the real Hank to return and realize he screwed up again.

Hank's entire life is plagued with him feeling bad about others being better than him at almost everything. Black Goliath was Hanks only friend despite the fact that he perfected Hank's growth serum. Jan/Wasp was a celebrity and better hero. He was always trying to prove that he was worthy of being an Avenger and that caused him to do a bunch of dumb stuff that lead to to thousands dying by Ultron's hands over the years. Hank either admit you're a super villain or go ahead and pull that trigger. I really have no idea why this guy is getting a movie. Marvel please reconsider giving Hank Pym a movie. If you're going to do so at least portray him as the woman beating, murderer, super villain that he is. There is no reason to lie and say he's a hero. I'd take my chances with death before letting Hank Pym save me.

  1. Enjoyed the article but I noticed an error. He doesn't kill her in the Ultimate universe. She goes into shock after receiving so many ant bites in her smaller state but she doesn't die from that. She dies in the flood and then is found being eaten by Blob.
