Black Lagoon: Roberta`s Blood Trail Review

So our favorite maid Roberta is out to gain revenge against a military unit called Grey Fox. Grey Fox is responsible for the assassination of Diego Lovelace (Garcia’s dad). Because of this Garcia and his young maid Fabiola travel to Roanapur to ask for Lagoon Company’s help (mainly Rock’s help) to find Roberta. Things really start to pick up from here.

There is a lot going on in this special 5 episode OVA. You get to see why Roberta is such a sexy bad ass maid and why she is called the bloodhound. Roberta is a killing machine, a pill popper (she started taking pills), and turns into a psychopath. Roberta also sees the ghost of a person she killed and feels like she is being tormented for her sins. Roberta’s twisted ideal of atonement is to kill Grey Fox. Even though this OVA is mainly about Roberta, this OVA also provides more of a detail background on the other main characters in Black Lagoon.

You get to find out about Revy’s past, how Dutch and Balalaika have a working relationship, you’ll learn about Chang and Balalaika’s past, Eda being a CIA agent and being an important figure, Rock becoming somewhat of a mastermind, Chang being a bigger mastermind than Rock, Garcia’s growth from being a boy to becoming a man, and so much more. Within these five episodes there is so much going on that you have to pay attention.

The action is what really makes this OVA worth watching. Now if you watched Black Lagoon before then you already know what I’m talking about. To give you a taste of what I’m talking about, there is a point in the OVA where Roberta shoots a guy with her belt gun. Yes I said belt gun. The way Roberta goes on a killing spree and just tears shit up, man…. Does Roberta kill all of Grey Fox? Hmmmm? You will have to watch for yourself and find out.

In the end Roberta losses an arm and a leg (still sexy though) but Garcia manages to bring her back to live out their lives (including the rest of the maids that work for Garcia) together in his mansion. Roberta even meets the family of the man she killed that haunted her.

Overall this was a great OVA and you should watch Black Lagoon first before you watch the OVA. You won’t be familiar with the characters and the plot if you haven’t watched or read the beginning of Black Lagoon. I believe Roberta`s Blood Trail OVA is based off the El Baile de la muerte arc in Black Lagoon so this isn’t filler (don’t quote me but I’m pretty sure).

I definitely recommend that you watch Black Lagoon and Black Lagoon: Roberta`s Blood Trail ASAP!!! This has been a Blerds Online review done by Taiwan.
