Sakura Trick Review

So when I first saw that Sakura Trick was on the winter anime list I got excited, “Oh a Yuri love story sweet!” Was my excitement for nothing? Find out in this review! *Warning there maybe be a spoiler in this article*

Story

Haruka and Yuu are two girls that go to the same high school, they find out that the high school will be shut down in three years, so because of this they decided to share something special between one another a kiss. From that point on their relationship grows. The story doesn’t really get any deeper than that, well at least in the anime. Wait I may be wrong! There is a little bit of information that I left out! Keep reading :P

Pros

Sakura Trick is a pretty nice Slice Of Life/Yuri series. The characters are funny, unique, and they all contribute to make the series enjoyable. Also if you like to see 2D girls kiss well get ready! You’ll see a lot of kissing *laughs*! I forgot to mention early in the article that there is a trace of a love triangle between three characters. I will go into more detail about that soon.

Cons

You know how I mentioned about a lot of kissing? Well… The kissing can get out of hand sometimes. There were moments in the anime where they had kiss scenes that didn’t benefit the overall love story between Haruka and Yuu. Each episode has kissing in it whether it is Haruka and Yuu or other characters but for the most part the kissing didn’t really make the series any better. If you’re looking for an interesting love story then you came to the wrong place. Also I thought that the series would have more focus on the fact that their high school was about to be shut down in three years, they mention that every once in a while. I felt like there was no real focus on the story, just random kissing. If it wasn’t for the last two episodes (which showed a trace of a love triangle) I wouldn’t recommend this series to all of the Yuri lovers out there.

Thoughts

In the last two episodes the series got a bit more interesting. Mitsuki (Yuu’s older sister) catches Haruka and Yuu kissing. After that happened Mitsuki would later realize that she was in love with Haruka. Mitsuki also confessed her love to Haruka on the season finale only to get turned down. For me that is what redeemed the series and kept me satisfied. The animation is pretty nice as well. The opening theme was nice. Overall Sakura Trick was good, not great like I hoped the series would be but good.

I gave Sakura Trick a 7 out of 10. Would I recommend this series? Yes and no, it really would depend on the person.
