Tomb Raider has been a pretty big subject of controversy over the past couple of weeks. Square Enix took the great award winning game, "rebuilt it from the ground up" for the next gen consoles (PS4, Xbox One), and slapped a 60$ price tag on a game that was already released in early 2013. We all have to have asked ourselves, "is it really worth it"? I am here to put it in perspective for you as best as I can and help answer this question for you after played both the original and upscaled versions.
It has been confirmed that Square Enix started making profit on Tomb Raider at the very end of 2013, which I honestly think is a shame when franchises like Call of Duty are recycled every single year for what feels like forever now, thrown on the shelves and make an easy profit. When Tomb Raider first came out we all agreed that it was a great game and for it to have barely broken even in almost an entire year from the work and quality developers put into such a huge franchise is obviously a worry for those developers. So we can understand why they decided to re-release Tomb Raider on PS4 and Xbox One. Also, with Tomb Raider being a reboot I am sure the developers are looking to make a sequel and if there is no worthy profit in it from the original then obviously we aren't going to see Tomb Raider 2 which would be a shame for gamers.
What comes with the Definitive Edition? Basically you get all of the Multiplayer DLC (special guns and such), around 6 different outfits for Lara via story mode, the art book that comes with the packaging and some other bonus features that aren't as note worthy but none the less, extras.
After beating Tomb Raider for Xbox 360 and now for the PS4, to be honest I enjoyed it more the second time around in the definitive edition. Reason being was the graphics, the game truly does look next gen. Lara looks lovely despite being covered in dirt and blood. The areas have been improved as well. The graphics did improve the gameplay for me, it was easier for me to spot things more than previously. AND THE CUT SCENES... just wow. Lara Climbing up the tower to try to contact a somebody for help. It looked so good, Lara feels so much more real than previously with her enhancements. If anybody tells you that she doesn't look better than perviously then they're downright liars. The game just a movie to me after a point. I definitely have to give it to them for the graphical updates.

A negative that I must note is the inclusion of the microphone. If you use the playstation camera or a headphone in use, you are going to be rather annoyed while playing this game. It will pause randomly thinking you actually said "pause" when you are having a conversation with somebody. It happened multiple times and at first I originally thought it was a port issue. Also remote play on vita has some port bugs. The fact that they made a big deal about Multiplayer DLC was pretty laughable. Nobody plays Tomb Raider for the multiplayer. Most people that have played Tomb Raider often refer to the multiplayer as "garbage" though I don't personally agree. It definitely isn't anything worth bragging about at all to me personally but when playing it I wasn't angry with it. You should basically not take it seriously is what I'm saying. It is a very causal uncompetitive multiplayer that tried to incorporate the game's movement features which I didn't mind playing for a little while.
With that said, if you have not played the Tomb Raider reboot then I can 100% tell you to get this game, it will not only help hold you over until March (for the PS4 games to start rolling out) but you will also get something out of this beautiful constant adrenaline rush. Now for those who already have the game for past gen... it really becomes more complex. If you want Tomb Raider for the Xbox One then I would say no. You didn't pay 500$ for a console to play the last gen 30 frames-per-second. That is just unacceptable. But for the PS4 I say to know yourself as a gamer. If you really loved Tomb Raider the first time and know you would love and truly enjoy to the fullest the reboot Tomb Raider running at 1080p 60fps then you should definitely get this game. For those who are interested but don't really have the desire to play through the story again, or you already played the story 3 or more times and got your fill of Lara, I would say don't get it. I know myself as a gamer. Right when they said Tomb Raider for PS4, I said it will be mine because I know I loved that game so much and the story has huge replayability for me. When it comes down to it, the story is 95% maters with this game.

At the end of the day, we play games to get enjoyment out of them. People shouldn't be judged for buying a game over because they loved it that much. There's many games that we've bought where the developers had us completely hyped and then the game turned out to be garbage like The Walking Dead Survival Instinct or games that were released unfinished like Battlefield 4. Unlike these games, Tomb Raider was a great game from start to finish with a great heroine to lead that makes Rambo look like a punk. What are all of your thoughts on Tomb Raider the Definitive Edition?
