Binbougami ga! Series Review: A Funny, Action Packed Adventure with Love

I see the Black Guy Bobby with underwear on his head head and I think for a second, "There's a black guy on the cover page of an anime. This will be a decent series." So I check out the first episode and it was pretty funny. You have the Poverty God Momiji trying to steal the main character Sakura Ichiko's happiness energy. Everyone in the world has a balanced amount of happiness and misfortune energy but Sakura was born with an abundant amount of Happiness energy but the real problem is that she sucks the happiness away from other people. This causes them to suffer. Now Sakura is a rich girl who gets what she wants and all the boys at school adore her. She's hated by all the females because the boys pay them no attention. The Poverty Gods want to extract some of her energy so that the people around her won't suffer any more. But the Gods sent the wrong person to take the energy. They send lazy and forgetful Momiji whose just a slacker. But she can be reliable in desperate situations.

Sakura and Momiji make a great combo in terms of friendship and just plain comedy. They're kinda like Krillin and Goku. All out comedy. So after the first episode I'm thinking that it would be all comedy but no. The third  episode surprised me with its drama. Sakura decides that she needs a boyfriend and just when she says that, the sleeping Tsuwabuki wakes up. Tsuwabuki is a hard working 17 year old boy who takes care of his four younger siblings. They don't have parents because they left them behind to go on a treasure hunt. Tsuwabuki sleeps all day in class because he works a different job every night. He ends up leaving his wallet at school and Sakura picks it up. She takes it to his house to find out that he's poor. Tsuwabuki introduces her to his family and they have dinner together.  Mid way through she sees that they only have little food so she makes a bold statement that if your poor than you should just work for the weak. She then throws cash at them. Tsuwabuki gets pissed and kicks her out. Later that night Tsuwabuki's little brother is drowning in a river and Sakura saves him using happiness energy. Tsuwabuki thanks her but they still aren't on good terms.

Through out this episode Sakura acted like a straight bitch. She didn't have any remorse for Tsuwabuki and his family.  This is one of those few episodes where you want to just beat the shit out of Sakura for being a spoiled rich bitch. But of course over the series you start to like and even love Sakura. Especially if you continue the series with the manga where the anime left off. The storyline just drags you in and keeps you in its dungeon until you finish the series. The plot thickens as more gods and villains appear to not only take away her Happiness Energy but also her life. Ichiko develops more relationships with friends and even foes as the series evolves. Not only does it progress the mindset of Ichiko but the rest of the characters; Momiji, Rindou and even Bob. The story is good but the characters are amazing, they're the selling point. The artwork for the manga was great as well.

The manga was a monthly series and has a total of 73 chapters and 15 volumes. And if none of this is making want you read or watch the series then I'll talk about the parodies. Every chapter there is a reference or parody of another anime. DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Eye Shield 21, Lupin III, and Black Jack are no exception to this. This series makes you laugh, cry, sad, and rejoice. This one of those series where you don't want it to end and you love all the characters. Trust me I'm not lying about how good this series is.
