Taeyeon - My Voice Album Review

After two successful EP's "I" and "Why" released in 2015 and 2016, Taeyeon has release her first full length album My Voice.

That album starts with the lead single "Fine" which is a mid tempo pop song about being contempt after a breakup. This was a great way to start the album. There is nothing special going on in the lyrics but the singing and the production were great here. Its a very solid single and maybe her best yet. At the same time Taeyeon hasn't disappointed when it comes to singles. We move on two the second track Cover Up which is my favorite track on the album. Its the only dance track here and it does its job so well. When the beat comes in after "Boy I can't cover up my heart" one can not help but burst into joy, sort of like the lyrics to the song. I love the track but it definitely feels like a leftover from "Why". Its out of sync with the rest of the album but is still good.

There is a track on here that is lacking substance. "I Got Love" was a pre-release track that generated buzz but the song is unfinished. During the chorus the beat switches to a breakdown but with the build up to this point, the finished product is very lackluster. There is nothing attractive about the chorus. The rest of the song is good, especially the Chaka Khan "Aint Nobody" sample but that chorus is just a stain on an otherwise good song.

My Voice showcases Taeyeon's voice over several different styles and lives up to its name. Every song here is crafted in a certain way that's different from the other tracks. Each song has its undeniable flavor. From the first listen of the album I was interested but from then on I was hooked. This truly is a solid debut full length album and it is one of the best I've heard in a while. Even though I enjoy the album, I do feel as if it never ended. Eraser is a good song but I don't think it should have closed the album. "When I Was Young" or "Time Lapse" should have been the closer as they are softer and more suitable for an "end".

I'll give this album a light 8/10. I was thoroughly enjoyed and there isn't a track here that I hate regardless of there being something minor going on. This has tons of replay ability and all of these songs are going into one of my many playlist.
