Black Superhero: Batman - Wayne Williams

Batman and Stan Lee seem like two things that just don't go together. Well, they did at one point. Stan Lee was hired by DC Comics to write an elseworlds series, similar to Marvel's what if stories. Stan created new origin stories for some of DCs most popular characters like; Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.

Stan's version of Batman starts as a young kid named Wayne Williams. Wayne's late father was a police officer who was murdered in a mob ambush. Later during his teenage years Wayne witnesses a mob boss named Handz beating his girlfriend. Wayne stepped in to protect her but Handz didn't like that. Instead of doing the usual he brought up Wayne's dead father. A shop keeper tried to stop him but got his hands broken in response, the usual thing, and how Handz got his name.

Handz would go on to murder the shopkeeper and frame Wayne for the murder. Despite witness testimony Wayne was sent to prison because police don't do their jobs.

While in prison Wayne tried to keep to himself but his early years of prison were full of beatings and possibly worse. Eventually, he decided to fight back against his tormentors and began training his body. One day Wayne stopped the beating of a scientist named Fredrick Grant. Grant would go on to become Wayne's best friend and help him train his brain to match his body.

During the time Wayne was locked away his mother became I'll and died. He blamed Handz for this and grew desperate for revenge. But Wayne wasn't a bad person. When a prison riot took place Wayne saved the warden's life instead of escaping. Because of this Wayne was given a pardon and released from prison.

Upon release Wayne became a masked Luchador in a bat costume. He became known around the world as Batman and soon became the wealthiest wrestler ever. He never unmasked in public and waited for the moment he was ready to take on Handz. When he was ready he reunited with his friend Frederic from prison. The two added gadgets and armor to Wayne's wrestling gear and planned an assault on Handz and his associates.

During the assault Handz falls to his death and Wayne learns that he had been keeping his high school sweetheart Nita captive. Afterwards Wayne gives Frederic a mansion and pretends to be his bodyguard so they can keep a low profile. Wayne stops wrestling and starts going out with Nita who is also their secretary now. He focuses on fighting crime full time from that point on.
