Leonard Smalls Jr. - Holocaust
Thomasina Jefferson had a horrible life. It didn't get any better when she was raped by an unidentified man as a teenager. With minimal access to abortion she was forced to carry the baby and eventually give birth to him. Feeling he had ruined her life. She couldn't stand looking at the child only seeing him as a memory of her rape.
One night the hospital caught fire and most patients escaped. However, the nursery had not been evacuated and all of the babies were still there. Thomasina debated silently before she rushed back into the fire. When she arrived in the nursery her baby was the only one still alive while the others had all died due to the smoke. When she walked out she saw a woman crying. She gave the baby to her and said "This is your baby." removing him from her life.
The baby was named Leonard Smalls Jr. after the woman's husband. He did not have an easy life either. Leonard Sr. mentally abused his family every day and beat them almost every day. Eventually Leonard had shut away all of his emotions and suffered from low self esteem. As a teenager he began getting into fights at school until he was sent away to a reform school. They had hoped that it wound calm Leonard's temper and obsession with violence. It didn't work.
Leonard was forced to return home when his father finally went too far and beat his mother to death. With his mother dead and father in jail he was forced to care for his younger siblings. Being a minor he didn't have many options to take care of them. Leonard joined the Paris Island Bloods which allowed him to take care of his family, although through less than legal means.
There he met and fell in love with Juniper, who was also the daughter of the Paris Bloods leader Elijah. Elijah was a brutal man who protected his daughter at all costs. Yet Leonard still fell in love with her. Juniper didn't help calm Leonard's temper. When Leonard Sr. was released from prison she convinced him to murder Leonard senior. Afterwards their relationship became sexual despite the fact they were barely old enough to drive.
Eventually Elijah walked in on them. He had members of the gang hold Leonard and force him to watch as Elijah beat Juniper. Chastising her for sleeping with "shit" as he called Leonard. When he was finished beating her she was forced to watch as Elijah beat Leonard. Suffering from years of beatings already this didn't phase Leonard as much as Elijah thought but the beating continued. Leonard's one saving grace was his patience. During the beating he plotted on how to get revenge on Elijah knowing that Elijah was too powerful to hurt now, but that could be changed.
Despite the beating Leonard remained with the Paris Bloods because "once you're a blood you're a blood for life." Still in the gang he was demoted to working with the new members. When the tension between Paris Island gangs began to rise the groups decided to have one final show down to determine who owned Paris Island. This was called The Big Bang, initially because there were an estimated 500 gang members attending the brawl. The fight was supposed to be a secret but somehow news crews and police arrived increasing the number of people on the scene.
When police began throwing an experimental tear gas Leonard and the others continued to fight. Leonerd continued to fight but he slowly realized that the people around him begin falling out due to the gas. Some people's skin even began melting while others turned to ash or just died. Leonard eventually started screaming in pain for the first time since his youth, not because of the death around him but because he felt like his body was being set on fire from the inside and out. The pain continued until he passed out due to the pain.
Majority of the gang members at The Big Bang died that day. Leonard was not one of those. Instead he woke up with the power to control fire. Most of the other survivors also came from the Paris Island Bloods. They reunited under Leonard and became known as The Blood Syndicate. They immediately started flexing their power throughout Paris Island. Taking control of gangs and drug dealing in the city. The competitions' options were "get down or lay down," and anyone who didn't follow the Blood Syndicate they died.
With the Blood Syndicate growing Leonard started to become more arrogant and vicious. He no longer felt any sympathy for those under him and was only concerned with gaining more power. It was during this time that he renamed himself Holocaust because of all the people he had killed. During an attempted robbery of a drug dealer, Holocaust decided to just set the entire apartment complex on time.
The other members of Blood Syndicate went to help evacuate people why Holocaust just watched the building burn. Tech-9 who was a member of the Blood Syndicate was the person organizing the evacuation. Holocaust was angered by this and challenged Tech-9 for leadership of the Blood Syndicate the same day as the fire. Later that day they fought and Holocaust was much stronger than Tech-9. However he became arrogant and laughed at him, calling him weak and stupid for trying to lead without any real power of his own. Tech-9 actually did have the power to summon weapons and ammunition, if Holocaust had paid attention he would have noticed Tech-9 never had to reload any of his weapons. This allowed Tech-9 catch Holocaust off guard and secure a victory. Defeated Holocaust quit the Blood Syndicate and promised he would have revenge on them all.
In his defeat Holocaust decided to establish himself as an individual gang leader and part of organized crime. He purchased a night club and renamed it The Hot Spot. The night club also became the base for his new gang. His gang only recruited other bang babies hoping this would make them a powerhouse. The first two people he recruited were Hot Streak and Tarmack. After the duo were defeated by Static, Holocaust made it his mission to recruit Static.
It actually went well and Holocaust made himself seem like a good person. Static believed that Holocaust really was a good guy, unaware of the crimes he committed behind the scenes. However, Holocaust attempted to kill the child of Giacomo Cornelius in front of Static, a rival mom boss who had feuded with the Paris Island Bloods in the past. Static didn't allow this, and Holocaust dismissed him from the gang realizing Static was just a naturally good kid.
After securing a hold on part of Paris Island he was approached to join the Star Chamber, which was a group of former Shadow Cabinet members who wanted to take over the world. They told Holocaust the Big Bang was caused by Quantum Juice, or Q Juice. They wanted to use it to create more bang babies and rule the world with an army. Holocaust agreed as long as they allowed him to do whatever he wanted and he received 15% of the Q Juice for himself.
In an attempt to make sure Icon would not interfere he recruited Rocket to work with him. Like Static, she was somehow unaware of Holocaust true nature despite being a high profile criminal. I write it off as both Static and Rocket were teenagers heroes who possibly don't watch the news and hadn't encountered him before. After recruiting Rocket, they Star Chamber went into a full blown war with The Shadow Cabinet. Icon who had no role in either group showed up to inform Rocket of her bad choice and beat Holocaust badly, as well as destroying his night club.
When the fighting was over nobody noticed Holocaust had managed to sneak away with a canister of Q Juice for himself. Instead of creating more bang babies he inhaled used the juice himself. While the initial shock almost killed him he survived and became stronger, increasing his control over fire and giving him super strength with 200lbs of muscle, as well as making him grow a foot taller. Recruiting new members for his gang he started a second attempt at taking the city.
He started by killing all of the opposing mafia leaders who had stopped him previously. The first one he went after was Elijah. Former leader of the Paris Island Bloods, the man who had once beaten him for falling in love. First he destroyed Elijah's operation. Then he recruited the best members of his crew. Lastly he took Juniper. When Elijah finally had nothing left, Holocaust burned him alive.
When Holocaust looked for membership in The Coalition, the top criminal organization made up of other gangs, they said no. They said he was a loose cannon, and that was true, but they didn't leave it there. Instead they made it racist and flat out claimed they didn't want any black people around. They had no problem with calling Holocaust racial slurs. However, for the first time he didn't feel powerless. He began destroying their lives until they had to bribe the mayor to take him down.
Who was the mayor? A woman named Thomasina Jefferson, Leonard's real mother. She did everything in her power to stop him. Including calling former heroes like John Tower. Despite all of this Holocaust kept moving forward until all of her resources were destroyed and there was no one willing to fight. The two eventually met where she explained that The Coalition only kept the darkest crimes of Dakota covered. If it got out of hand she would call in the army, Icon or whoever else needed until it was all destroyed. Before killing her, she told Holocaust she didn't care who led The Coalition as long as this problem was solved. He spared his mother's life like she had once spared his.
However, she accidentally let him know that the Smalls family weren't his real parents. With her stepping aside in the issue he threatened The Coalition members with death if they didn't allow him to join. To join he had to make a sacrifice, Juniper the woman he loved, or his name. He easily chose the name Leonard to sacrifice. Afterwards he went to the mayor's office confirming that he had figured out she was his real mother. He demanded that she give him a name because that's the one thing she owed him. She chose to name him Pyre.
Now calling himself Pyre he ruled over his new empire, recruiting bang babies and making himself stronger. However, they finally crossed paths with the Blood Syndicate again. He could have easily destroyed them but say they were falling apart already since Tech-9 had died (his powers had destabilized and he melted). He chose to wait until they fell apart, and they did. Afterwards he picked his favorite members to join his gang, renaming them the Blood Syndicate. Once again regaining the name.
With his army he marched to the next Coalition meeting. There he massacred the other leaders and replaced them with members of the Blood Syndicate. He told the Coalition members left that he was now in charge and their new leaders were the Blood Syndicate.
