Top 5 Main Ways That AEW Has Disrespected Their Women’s Division

Over the past year and a half, AEW has taken the wrestling world by storm and while they have had strong shows and weak ones, there’s the one legit complaint that many fans have had about the young mainstream wrestling promotion since their inception: the women’s division.

I made a post and recently appeared on a black wrestling podcast and said that “The Divas Era” is alive and well in AEW and that statement I made couldn’t be any more truer than what we’re seeing every week on Dynamite.

The same negative and sexist “Divas Era” style views and booking that The WWE perpetuated towards their women for many years unfortunately has continued and allowed to be permeated in AEW.

Here are top 5 main ways in which AEW disrespects their women’s division.

Pushing NWA Women At The Expense Of Pushing AEW Women To Catering - The biggest disrespect that AEW has done to their women’s division is currently ongoing right now where they go out of their way to often push NWA Women & The NWA Women’s Title on Dynamite. While it may seem like a “good idea” to some fans, but for smarter fans like me, this is seen as a detriment to not only The AEW Women’s Champion, but to The AEW Women’s Division as a whole. I really think it’s time for AEW to end the practice of using NWA women to get them and their women’s title over at the expense of The AEW Women’s Champion & The AEW Women’s Division.

Note: I find it annoying and insulting that The NWA Women’s Title got more TV time on Dynamite than AEW’s own Women’s Title and that’s absolutely atrocious. Last week The NWA Women’s Title match got over 10 minutes while this week’s AEW Women’s Title match on Dynamite once again got less than 10 minutes which to me is complete disrespect towards The AEW Women’s Champion & Division as a whole.

Moving The Inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Tournament To YouTube - One of the biggest acts of disrespect AEW did to their women’s division this year is by moving The Inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Tournament to fucking YouTube of all places instead of having it on Dynamite where it would have definitely been a huge step forward for their women’s division, but they’re like in gorilla “nope, these b*****s don’t deserve to be on TV because the men are the focal point of this show” The idea for their inaugural women’s tag team tournament was definitely a good one, but the execution of it by relegating it to YouTube was absolutely atrocious. Unlike AEW, At least Impact Wrestling will have their women’s tag team tournament on their main weekly TV show.

Having Only One Women’s Match On Dynamite - One of the biggest ways that AEW has disrespected their women’s division is by only putting ONE women’s match on Dynamite which doesn’t do much to build up their women on the current roster because if they truly cared about their women’s division, they would have at least 2-3 women’s matches every week on Dynamite to allow these women to develop their characters and tell their stories in the ring. Having ONE women’s match a week on Dynamite is absolutely atrocious compared to 5 women’s matches on Dark from this past week which all were between 3-5 minutes. And unlike AEW, there are at least 2-3 women’s matches that last longer than 10 minutes every week on NXT and Impact.

Very Short Matches - Another one of the biggest forms of disrespect that AEW has put on their women’s division that many smart wrestling fans have pointed out is how extremely short AEW women’s matches are compared to the men’s. Most AEW women’s matches don’t even go past 10 minutes unless it’s at a PPV like Full Gear where both women’s matches went over 10 minutes compared to “Divas Era” style 3-5 minute matches that we see frequently on Dynamite. WWE was notorious for having 3-5 minute women’s matches for many years before and despite their self-proclaimed “women’s evolution”, most women’s matches on The WWE main roster still last between 3-5 minutes to this day. They need to cut out some of the men’s matches to give AEW women longer matches on Dynamite and not only for PPVs.

Treating Their Women’s Title As An Afterthought - Ever since they crowned their first women’s champion a year ago, AEW has treated their women’s championship as an afterthought compared to their men’s titles and that’s very present when they put their women’s title matches on Dynamite or PPV without any real build or storyline, currently pushing The NWA Women’s Title over their own women’s title on Dynamite every week while relegating their own women’s champion to the audience or on Dark many weeks. Even worse, there have been many instances this year in which they refused to even promote their own women’s title matches on Dark let alone Dynamite which is absolutely atrocious if you ask me. They need to start making their own women’s title relevant by giving it a new look and giving fans a legit reason as to why they should care about their women’s title.

The Conclusion - AEW maybe a young mainstream wrestling promotion & all, but come 2021, there will be no more excuses when it comes to their women’s division because we ain’t buying that shit anymore.
