Why People Wait for More Milestone

There hasn't been an event more anticipated than the return of Milestone Comics. We don't know when it's coming back. We've been hearing hype for years at this point. Despite that everyone holds strong because hopefully tomorrow is the day we finally get news as to where our comics are. We wait anticipating the return because to so many people, Milestone was the first time they were able to see a character like them.

For me, it was Static. He's a young black nerdy guy. But at the same time he's not carrying the weight of every black person on his shoulders. He was just Virgil. He wasn't being bullied for being a nerd like Steve Urkel or Lamar from Revenge of The Nerds. He was a master of code switching and I could relate to that.

Beyond all the respect she gets for being a young single mom, Rocket was so much more. She was a writer. She was the real leader of the team not Icon. She made the best out of a bad situation and I know a lot of people could see that. There's Icon her partner in crime fighting, a strong conservative. Even Clarence Thomas took time from sexual harassment to pay respect. In the same series was Buck Wild a former prisoner who turned his whole life around.

There's Rick Stone, Donner, Blitzen, Fade and others. All of these characters were homosexual, and they all dealt with it differently. If you're in the closet, just out the closet or living your best life, there was a character in that stage. Turn around and there's Marissa and Masquerade, both trans people, again dealing with it in different ways.

Are you Asian? There's David Kim, The Xombi. I mean, someone is bound to point out he's a genius Asian stereotype. However, to be fair, David Kim was around before that trope shot into every film in the early 2000s. He's arguably one of the characters that created that trope to no fault of his own.

We could keep going with examples. But, the fact is Milestone has something for everyone. There's a character for everyone in every stage of life. It's characters who felt like real people that drew people into Milestone.
