Your Favorite Artist Will Disappoint You. Its Okay

Every artist can't deliver great album after album like Kendrick Lamar. Some of are favorite artist will go uphill with consistent releases then crash and sometimes burn. When this happens it's easy to feel betrayed by them and question that artist head space when they made the train wreck of an album. As fans we have to realize that the more an artist is able to breath, the more experimental they may become or worst, lazy. Hey, it happens to the best of them. Most artist can recover but some don't. Some continue to dig themselves in a grave they may never be able to climb out but once again, it could be just a phase.

Vince Staples released his second studio album "Big Fish Theory" last year and to many people it was a flop. As a huge Vince fan I was excited and although the album was different from his previous work, I thought it was still good. Vince moved away from the dark experimental beats he's none for with violent yet smart lyrics of his gang banging lifestyle to a more serene house music style album in Big Fish. A huge leap from where he used to be but Vince was still able to deliver a solid album. Some fans may not like this but Vince is young, only at the age of 24, he has plenty of time to experiment and grow.

There's sort of a curse placed upon artist who've been in the game for longer than 10 years. At some point our favorite artist start to deteriorate. They start trying different musical styles they would have never tried back in the day. Collaborating with lesser artist and eventually releasing terrible music that leaves a stain on their once perfect discography. I'm glad she's retiring because Namie Amuro's last 3 albums have been duds. After being in the game for almost 30 years and releasing 12 albums, it was bound to happen. "Uncontrolled"(2010), "FEEL" (2012) and "Genic" (2015) are mediocre albums that signaled the downfall of the Japaneses music queen. Though I love "FEEL" and the other two albums have decent tracks, it was about time she retired before I completely stopped checking for her newer music.

Of my 20 years of listening to American, Japanese, and Korean music, there is only one artist I have completely stopped listening to. That man is Drake. I used to love Drake. I never skipped his songs on the radio and listened to anything that had him on it but after "NWTS" that Drake we all once loved disappeared. Everything since then except the "IYRTITL" mixtape have been severely mediocre. It's gotten to the point I completely ignore his new music. I don't listen to it nor talk about him on my social medias. Drake is firing off sub par singles and albums that could been better but it seems he's not trying but at the same time why should he. He's the biggest artist on the planet right now meaning no matter what he does, people will still buy in droves. I still like Drake. he's still put out some decent stuff since 2014 but it hasn't resonated with the core fanbase. I believe he will one day return to us at full potential but until then I'm taking a back seat.

Our favorite artist are going to hurt us. They're going to release some bad verses, singles and albums and the only thing as fans we can do is just hope that they get back to their former glory after the fun and experimenting they're doing. One can only play that they don't dig a ditch they can't crawl out of.
