Toji no Miko episode 1 Review: Another Set Of Powerful Little Girls

Toji no Miko is the anime about Miko, Shrine Maidens, purging the world of demons and other impurities. There are 5 schools across Japan dedicated to raising these Miko and in the spring they have a competition just like normal schools have basketball nationals. Our main characters are middle school second years Etou Kanami and Yanase Mai. After wining their regional tryouts they advance to nationals. At nationals they advance until the semi finals where Etou beat Mai and Etou goes on to fight a mysterious character, Juujuu. The tournament never ends. During the last fight Juujuu attacks one of the older guards. They were about to kill her before Etou helps her escape and they run away.

This was boring. I was somewhat excited to watch the series since it was about purging demons even though this is basically another school girls are the only thing that can save the world type anime. Its boring nonetheless. Up until the tournament it was pure boredom and once the tournament starts it ends quick. None of the fights are exciting at that and the characters are bland. The beginning of the anime was more interesting with the task force taking care of that aratama. The series has promise though. They hint all the different fighting styles and that before the use of the mecha items come into play. Juujuu does seem to have a grudge or so against the council handling the competition and now she and Etou are on the run so things are sure to heat up but hopefully they actually do.

The animation was fine. I like CGI on the aratama because it didn't seem too far fetched compared to the rest of the animation. The ending theme song is pretty cool as well. I barely liked this episode. It wasn't bad but just not too enjoyable. If I watch episode two I doubt I'll review but I may review more episodes in the future.
