Why Do You All Now Care About Tyler, The Creator?

Tyler The Creator has been making waves since he stepped on the scene back in 2009 with his first Mixtape "BASTARD". Since then his career has skyrocketed almost to the moon. Now that was not only because of his music but also is abrasive personality and shock value lyrics/sayings. He's always been the clown of the scene whether people loved him or not. On July 21, 2017 he released his fourth Studio Album "Scum Fuck Flower Boy" but 11 days before that, the album leaked online. this lead to people questioning his sexuality because on the 7th track "Garden Shed" he apparently comes out as gay. Now I don't care whether Tyler is gay, bisexual or straight, I love that man but the reason I even created this post was because of how big Tyler has become because of that.

Tyler has always been "Mister Fucking Secret Agent" when it comes to his life outside of his music because of all the jokes he makes but this right here may be the icebreaker. As I said, he's abrasive, a guy who does things for the shock value and someone who used the word "faggot" a lot on his first 2 projects. For some this is a Revelation but to me, I always thought he was gay. Just look at him and how he acts and some of the things he's said. If Tyler is gay, its not that surprising to people who have followed his career. But never before has almost every music and pop culture site talked more about Tyler in the last 3 weeks then his last 6 years as an artists. But why? Is it because he's finally left behind that "child, abrasive" stigma or is it because he's more accessible because he's "gay" now?

I'm a huge fan of Tyler. His music has gotten me through high school and a lot of down moments so I want this man to succeed no matter what. I want him to have number 1 albums, singles and tour the world making as much money as he can but it is odd that now, of all times, he is now being referred to as "Black Excellence" after performing on the Colbert Show and now all of a sudden, mainstream media and black people who never gave him a chance are now covering him like they've stuck with him for years. I want everyone to love Tyler but I get the feeling that its only because he may or may not be gay.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand representation so I get the LGBTQ community being able to look at Tyler (if he's gay) as a great role model, to have a big mainstream rapper on their side must mean a lot to them as rappers are more commonly tough dudes and may come off as homophobic. If Tyler is now apart of that, I'm fine with that but once again, is all this new found fame because his music is now mature enough for the entire family to listen to regardless of age, race, or sex, or is it because he's now a "Gay and successful Rapper"?

Honestly, the world may never know but I hope we all cherish him for his talents. Scum Fuck Flower Boy is his best work yet. Lets appreciate this man for what he's doing and stop caring on whether he's been kissing white boys since 2004.
