Top 10 Songs: Month of May 2017

We had some good albums this month but honestly the singles kind of ruled for me.

Sabrina Claudio - Unravel Me
Claudio releases her first single after her first EP "Confidently Lost" earlier this year and I could not be happier. "Unravel Me:" plays to her strengths as a singer and songwriter with a very profound and ethereal mood. The beat here is a perfect use of non contemporary R&B but still a smooth listen. I can not sop listening to this song and found myself spending a lot of time on it upon release. Now I'm really praying for a collab with her and Baek Yerin.

The Quiett - Girlfriend
A Lot of hits came from The Quiett's new album :Millionaire Poetry" except for the track "Money over Bitches", its the only track I don't like. The rest of the album was fire but it would not be a Quiett album without a great love song. "Girlfriend" plays to the strengths of Post and Pre 2011 Quiett with a great verse from Kim Hyoeun. One of the best tracks on the album.

Jida - Starlight
Producer Jida is back with another single featuring singer Rachel Lim. I have loved all of their songs up to this point and "Starlight" does not disappoint. Jida always creates these pictures with his beats and Rachel's voice is just lovely on top but on this track, I'm more concerned about the lyrics than the production. Everything here is great but with lyrics like "But it’s not the star lighted city/Nor was it the breeze that got me singing/No other sceneries had me feeling/It’s you that got me feeling" one can't help but get chills as they listen. Another great track from the duo.

Dean - Love
I love Syd and The Internet. I love Dean. I never thought I wanted a Dean and Syd collab until it was happening. Then once it happened, I knew I wanted even more. these two are perfect with each other from their cadence to their vocal pitch. "Love" is simply a great collab between two great singers. The beat was a lot like something The Internet would make so Dean did great at capturing a beat that fits Syd while still playing to his own strengths. Damn near a masterpiece.

Black Nut x Goretexx - Silky Bois
Its been a month since it came out on the Just Music compilation album "We Effect" but I still listen to it everyday. The R&B and auto tuned track from the two has me wanting even more songs from them. Black Nut's verse couples with Goretexx's singing and Nochang's beat just made for a pleasant kiss on the lips. Another track that I didn't know I wanted but now want more.

Vince Staples - Big Fish
The newest single from Vince Staples is the prelude to his forthcoming album "Big Fish Theory" on June 23. As a big fan, I could not get enough of this song. Compared to more on Vince's previous gritty and dark tracks, this one is very upbeat. the song features Juicy J and is about Vince's come up from a street punk to a famous rapper, whether he likes it or not. The beat gives off a ocean feel complimenting the name and is just dope. Big Fish Theory is gong to be a great album.

Basick - A Women I Know
Basick has shown us different styles with his last 4 singles. The newest features San E and is about reminiscing about a woman that he knows. San E is only on the chorus but he serves his purpose well. The beat was captivating with its more slowed R&B texture and Basick gave us hard yet suitable raps for this track. I was hooked since the first listen alone. The Way To Foundation project is going to be project of the year it seems.

Prima Music Group - Yaya
The entire 22.8 album is great and it saddens me that its so underrated, at least by American fans. Randyachtz is a genius on the beat as usual. The songs starts of like a cheesy cellular phone ringtone but once the beat comes in it consistently progresses with a hard 808. When it comes to the verses I can't pick my favorite because they all went hard. This is nothing short of a great banger. Gotta buss this down in the whip this summer.

Seol.A - Ride
I've been waiting patiently for Producer Eachone and singer Seol.A's R&B project to conclude. We finally get that in the "Me and You" EP that has new tracks as well as 3 previously released tracks. The intro song "Ride" is a great way to open the album. I love the Piano and drum hits pounding away as Seol.A's soft voice sings away about wanting to "Ride". This is a cool track and sets the tone for the rest of the album. I highly recommend it as it's stellar from start to finish.

7ane - DUI
7ane (Jane) consisting of producers Hyungwoo Kim, Last Night and Singer Adan have released their first single featuring Penomeco. The entire song is fire. The beat came in strong and kept me invested. Adan's singing and Penomeco's rapping complimented each other perfectly. The song is Trap heavy but it fits the artist and isn't playing up the the fact that Trap is Trendy right now. Overall I thought it was a dope track and I can't stop listening.
