Boku no Hero Academia S2 EP1 Review: Eternal Sidekicks

The first episode of the 2nd season of Boku no Hero Academia starts off with an intro/flashback of the previous season plus the explanation why people have powers. after this we have the opening theme which I like a lot more compared to last season's theme. Then we have a news update about the UA incident involving Shiragaki attacking the students and trying to kill All Might. After that All Might gives a lot explanation of who he is and what he's doing with Midoriya. I didn't like this part. If you've already seen the first season we shouldn't be wasting time on things like this. We already know whats going on. Nothing new was added during All Might's speech. On top of that, if you have not seen the first season, why are you watching the second season first?

We find out there is was a whopping of 74 people who attacked UA. 72 people got merked by a bunch of kids who knew barely anything of their Quirks and had no real battle experience. Todoroki and Bakugo knew what they were doing and others like Seijiro and Yaoyarozu who got action in but still, they have never had any real combat encounters. Shiragaki really thought he could have pulled all of that off. He does deserve the mantle of Man Child.

I read the Boku no Hero manga and I always question, just how did Mineta get accepted, and also accepted into the top class? Everyone is fired up about the UA Sports Festival where everyone will get to showcase their Quirks to the world. Everyone is focused on getting noticed by top heroes except for Uraraka who wants to be noticed so her family will get work at their construction company. This just goes to show that not everyone wants to be a hero just to be one, some people are thinking more logically.

The episode ends with Midoriya and All Might discussing Midoriya's plan for the Festival since he can't properly use One For All. Now I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. I knew nothing special was going to happen but ti was very enjoyable. The jokes the characters had for each other was the selling point of the episode. The way the characters interact with each other is arguably the best part of this series. It gets better down the line in the manga and now that we know this season is going to be 25 episodes, I am extremely excited for the stuff we are going to see. Overall I thought it was a solid episode with a bunch of laughs. It got us somewhat hyped for what's next to come. If you are not watching the anime, watch the first season cause its only 12 episodes, and get on the hype train with the rest of us.
