Twice - TWICEcoaster: LANE 1 Review

Twice's third mini album is here. Their previously released albums The Story Begins and Page Two were very lackluster with about 5 songs being good from both albums combined. With this album I was hoping for a better reception musically.

The album starts with the lead single TT. Upon the first listen, I actually enjoyed this more, compared to the other singles which I had to force myself to like after weeks. TT stands as a really cute song while still being about not being able to confess their feelings properly. With more listens I enjoyed the song even more. It may well be my favorite of all their singles.

TT is followed by 1 To 10 which I thought was great. This track, like TT, has a more tame and slowed feel to it. Its not a song you'd find yourself dancing to vigorously but a track to nod your head to as you listen to them sing. I thought this song was very good as we get to hear singing that isn't, in a sense, screamed. I loved their tone here, just like  I did in TT.

Ponytail is next and it interrupts the flow of the album. Its not that this track is more upbeat but the fact that it doesn't have the same feel as the previous tracks. Honestly the production here just seemed thrown together, as did the next track Jelly Jelly. Both tracks lack any depth, barely any solid singing and rapping, and just overbearing instrumentals. Even though I like the Trap elements to Pit-a-Pat, it lacks any synergy. Everything just falls on top of each other instead of into place for these 3 tracks.

Next Page and One in a Million are pretty decent tracks that will get better with time but nothing special. If you subtract the middle 3 songs we have a  pretty decent EP but with them the EP is devalued. Twice are rocky because with each new release their genre is changed and nothing sticks. They have a couple good tracks but the full product is meh. If they stick with  Black Eyed Pilseung for the entire project then their albums would be better. I'll give this EP a rating of 3/5. TT and 1 To 10 are definitely on repeat.
