Crush - Wonderlust Album Review

Crush has returned to us with his second EP and his second EP this year, Wonderlust. The opening track "Wanderlust" was a great choice to open up the album as we see Crush going back to his R&B roots for the number which was produced by him and Kumapark. At only 2:09 with him only crooning and the instrumental playing, it was a solid and nice track to open with. Next we have "2411" followed by "Nostalgia". I enjoyed both of these tracks but my favorite thing about both of them are the instrumentals. This entire EP feels like Crush but it has so much more elements to it such as the rapping but more importantly the instrumentals. Its gone past the Hip-Hop and R&B and transitioning into more Ballad and Soul music. We can feel the shift with these two tracks. "Nostalgia" just pulls onto my heart strings which is great for the mood and direction the song is going in.

Can we just talk about who broke Crush's heart? The lyrics to Fall are very simple yet they have a poetic meter layered there and his calm voice grooving on piano chords with other instruments in the background is a splendid combination. Its a very calmed down single compared to his previous singles and takes us back to earlier in the year when he releases "Don't Forget" with Taeyeon. With this ballad release and personal lyrics, one can not help but to feel his pain and even recollect a time they were hurt. Crush's rapping is cool and his more popular tracks are dance worthy but his best songs have always been the ballads. "Sofa", "Don't Forget", "Sometimes", and now "Fall". In all, this track is a very sweet yet bitter treat for us fans. An amazing song but with gloomy lyrics.

The album started off with a very catchy and fun track but the album quickly shifted into a mellow and serious tone. Its almost as if Wanderlust should have been the opening to Interlude. But I feel as if that was a perfect way to start the album because it is about love for people but not as catchy as previous songs. We can damn near switch Dust with Wanderland and the albums would only gain. This EP is too short and I'm pissed. The songs barely made 3 minutes except for Fall, but all of the tracks are good. I enjoyed this EP a lot, maybe even more than Interlude so I'm mad that the tracks were short. Overall it was a well crafted EP and I'm glad it was released in the fall season due to how emotional the tracks are. I give this EP a rating of 3.5/5.
