Maon Kurosaki - H.O.T.D. Album Review

Another Edition of Vintage Reviews

Maon Kurosaki's debut album High school Of The Dead was truly phenomenal. This album was made alongside the anime adaptation of the Manga High School Of The Dead. All 12 ending songs were the songs on the album. Each episode had a different ending that reflected what happened that episode.

The album was released in 2010 the same time I was making my venture into Japanese music. After watching the anime I wanted to listen to the songs of course so I looked them up and I came across her. This is one of my favorite albums period. It completely tells the story of living, losing others, having fun, and surviving till the end. The first song Kimi to Taiyou ga Shinda Hi sings of losing love as you watch it, you can only say goodbye to the beginning of the end.

The fourth song, which shares the number one spot of my favorite song, Cold Bullet Blues, is amazing. The song is about killing someone in order to protect a loved one. It truly is deep. This album is pretty dark and sad. There are songs that can lift your spirits such as Memories of Days Gone By, Under The Honey Shine, Fuss Fuzz, and, my favorite song that is tied with Cold Bullet Blues, The Place of Hope. These songs are the Silver Lining to the album filled with despair and trying to survive.

Watching the anime does help with giving this album more life as it was written together but it is possible to listen to it without the anime. It just won't be as good. This is not my favorite Maon Kuroski album but it is one of my favorite concept albums. Maon Kurosaki's style is very different from this album but this is still a great one. I do recommend you listen to this album because it is good. I give it a 7/10. It is a precursor to her career that takes off after this album.
