"In the wake of Xanshi's destruction, I was without purpose. So I spent my life hunting you. Slaughtering Green Lanterns in your in your name."
Yrra Cynril - Fatality
Yrra was a member of the Xanshii race. A group of aliens from the planet Xanshii, one of the many species there, which were similar to humans from Earth. Yrra was also the oldest child of the royal family on the planet. This meant that she was the next in line to be Queen of the planet. However she preferred to study the art of war. Because of this she spent long periods of time off planet being educated in different styles of war.
While studying with the Warlords of Okarra she met Starfire for the first time. Yet, during this time devastation would strike. The planet of Xanshii was destroyed in an explosion despite Green Lantern John Stewart attempting to prevent it. When she learned of the explosion she heard that John Stewart had personally caused the explosion and believed him to have destroyed her planet. Despite the Warlords of Okarra attempting to keep her on their planet and explain the truth she left anyway, seeking the death of John Stewart.
It's at this time she chose the name of Fatality and began bounty hunting on occasion for income. She planned to kill John and every other Green Lantern she crossed before him. She killed maybe a dozen before killing Green Lantern Stel. She was left unnoticed, mainly because of the many internal wars and power struggles within the Corps. It is during this time she came across Kyle Rayner and gave him that work. However she realized his ring was different than previous Green Lanterns she had encountered (Kyle had one of the first updated rings, power to kill no yellow weakness etc). She assumed Kyle was a fake Lantern and left him there, having no beef with him.
Kyle however rushed off to warn John about Fatality since he was the only other Green Lantern in the sector at the time. Fatality had tracked Kyle who she expected to lead her to John. When Kyle learned he was being tracked he attempted to take out Fatality but she gave him those hands again. This time she intended to just kill him but John Stewart arrived for the save. Over powered by John she slipped away to her ship. John ran out of battery power but Kyle recovered and managed to disable her ship leaving them both stranded on an empty planet.
Wounded from the crash she managed to beat Kyle yet again. At this point they were both injured and attacked by a tentacle monster. She told Kyle she would rather they both die instead of escaping. Kyle managed to escape somehow but when he returned the only thing he could find was her left arm so he assumed she was dead. He must not know about that black girl magic.

Because Star Sapphires aren't always people who love a lot, many of the members just fell victim to the parasite that converts other emotions to love. Being that her anger and hate were directed at John, this caused her to fall in love with him. She tracked him down to a battle where he was outnumbered by thousands of Orange Power Constructs and helped John to fight them off. When John went down she defended him until the Orange Lantern Constructs were called away for some reason. At this moment she begged John for his forgiveness knowing that he did all he could do to save her planet. Letting him know that she no longer wished to harm him and only wants to be forgiven now. She kisses him and then leaves to join the other Star Sapphires. Seriously, that love parasite is not cool at all.
She returned in time to help defend Zamaron from the Sinestro Corps who wished to regain the women that the Zamarons kidnapped and forced to join the Star Sapphires. In the end the Zamarons were defeated since most of the female lanterns from other corps had not been transformed yet. They didn't expect Green Lanterns to join the battle and side with Sinestro Corps, against brainwashing people and forcing them to join the Star Sapphires.

Thoughts: It's kind of hard to claim any of the Lantern Corps are actually villains besides the Black Lanterns. Most of them, including Green Lanterns, have done some pretty messed up things. They've also participated in saving the world. So it's like a coin flip. However since she knows John didn't destroy planet Xanshii she goes in the villain category because she knows she's chasing revenge on the wrong guy.

"she knows she's chasing revenge on the wrong guy." This is what made the Durlan rug pull so absurd.... The Star Sapphire ring didn't make Fatality feel that way. It may have changed her outlook on life to be dominated by feeling love, but when you look back at her past.. BEFORE the Star Sapphire got to her.... She'd already gotten over the destruction of her home world. As FATALITY, and NOT the Star Sapphire she'd twice had chats with John about why she thought he should stop the pity party.
ReplyDeleteThe Star Spphire thing was a drastic change... but in many ways it made sense. Yrra became Fatality.... because of the heartbreak she felt when her home was destroyed and her family were killed. Her anger and rage were.... fueled by a broken heart. and she came to see that John was just as broken as she was. And then some one decided that it was a waste of a good villain and was like "nope, imposter" and just.... wrecks what was a great story.
