Black Mass
The villain known as Black Mass was born a normal kid named Geoffry Thibodeux. He grew up in a good home and excelled in school. After college he became one of the youngest lead physicist in his employers history. However the Overmaster offered him a life of crime and he couldn't reject the opportunity after becoming bored with normal life. He put on a pair of wristbands that allowed him to control gravity and increase his body mass and strength to great proportions at the cost of intelligence. The larger he gets, the dumber he gets but he returns to normal once he shrinks down to his normal body size.
Now known as the villain Black Mass he joined the villain group called The Cadre. The group had some success committing small crimes. However they came into contact with The Justice Society of America. They attempted to put up a good fight, but in the end they were all defeated and captured before being sent to prison.
After some time in prison Black Mass made a return to crime, mostly robberies of banks and armored cars. However he lost his wrist bands to a man named Wally Tortolino in a card game. However Black Mass managed to retrieve them through some violent means, showing he's just as formidable at his normal size when backed into a corner. It is during this time he learned that the wristbands only worked because of his natural ability he was unaware of. Eventually the wristbands became unnecessary when he learned to use the power himself. Similar to Black Lightning. Which is funny because Black Lightning captured him during a robbery and sent him to prison.
When The Joker caused a riot at Slab Penitentiary, Black Mass created a hole and used his power over gravity begin pulling the entire facility underground. However, just before the entire prison caved in he was shot in the back of his head by US Marshal Dina Bell. This left Black Mass in a coma for an unmentioned amount of time. After awaking he was almost completely paralyzed but returned to prison where he shared a cell with Dr. Polaris.
Despite not being able to move he was unaware they placed him in Dr. Polaris cell because his gravity control was still working on a low level and interfered with Polaris power of magnetism. Eventually he regained use of his limbs and some of his brain function. He was a long way away from his days as a physicist. Feeling unable to plan his own crimes anymore he joined Dr. Polaris in a new version of The Cadre. They took on The Power Company led by Josiah Power. Black Mass was however tricked into attacking members of The Cadre.
The next time he was seen he was escaping prison with former Cadre members Crowbar and Nightfall. The trio were attempting to leave the United States to escape prosecution for their crimes. However Black Lighting put an end to that.
Black Mass doesn't appear very often in the comics these days. Black Lightning occasionally beats him up and ask "what we learn?" He has appeared in a few of the DC Animated Films and Justice League Unlimited.
