Game Review - Star Wars: Battlefront

Sorry for the absence everyone. I’ve been busy with school and life and all that stuff. I’ve also been dedicating all my time into one game. That game is Star Wars: Battlefront.

I recently received a PlayStation 4 for Christmas. It was the Battlefront Bundle. I was stoked. I haven’t been this stoked about receiving a game system for Christmas (which was the Nintendo DS) since Pokemon Pearl came out back in 2007. Star Wars: Battlefront is fun. It’s nothing too amazing, but it’s a load of fun. You have two different modes in the game, which are Multiplayer Mode and Mission Mode. Multiplayer Mode, as you guessed it, is an online feature, so you will need Internet (obviously) and an EA Account to access the Multiplayer features.

The Multiplayer Mode feature consists of 10 different game modes, some examples being Supremacy, which is 20v20, down to simple ones, such as Cargo, being 6v6 (which is essentially Capture the Flag). All these modes take place on different planets. The sad news is, for each game mode, there’s only 4-5 different places you can choose to battle in, and only a total of four planets that these locations are located on. I know to some this doesn’t seem like much of a big deal, but if you’re going to have a game, at least make it complete and not ask for a $50 Season Pass before the game or even after the game comes out for ALL the content that should have been included in the game. Anyways, you’re thrown into these matches as either an Imperial or a Rebel. There are many Secondary Weapons you can choose from, such as Detonators to Pulse Rifles, and even the gun choices, being limited, are also very powerful, IF you know how to use them. All in all, this mode is really fun, and someone who isn’t even good at shooters besides Destiny, is a very enjoyable experience.

The second and last mode in this game is Mission Mode. Mission Mode is basically you completing, well, missions that are given to you. They are non-canon, and each one is just you completing it and getting either 1-5 stars at the end. Nothing special. Do what they say, get the points to Rank Up, all that jazz. After about a half an hour playing the missions, it got really boring to me. I soon quit this mode and went right back into Multiplayer Mode.

I talked about Ranking Up before, and Multiplayer Mode is the easiest way to do that. You start out at Rank 1 and can elevate yourself all the way to Rank 50. After about 12 hours into the game, I am on Rank 21. Seems pretty easy right? Not as you start getting to higher ranks. The amount of points you need increases each time, and the grind can sometimes be overwhelming. With these points, you can unlock guns and secondary weapons, but the catch is that you need to reach a certain rank to unlock the guns. The weapons, I’m pretty sure that you just need the points.

All in all, I give Star Wars: Battlefront a 7.5/10. Lack of story and limited locations to play on as well as boring and repetitive missions kind of killed the experience for me, but the multiplayer makes up for it immensely. If you haven’t picked up a copy of Battlefront, the game is for PS4, XBOX One and even on PC. You will buy this game……Guess I have to work on my Jedi Mind Tricks huh? Until next time guys!
