5 Grusome Pro Wrestling Matches

Pro wrestling can be gruesome and hard to watch at times. Today we bring you 5 of those matches. It goes with out saying that viewer discretion is advised, especially if you are young. You don't want this stuck in your mind. This is your last chance to walk away.

1. Terry Funk vs Cactus Jack - Japanese Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch

Obviously this match is violent and I brought you an edition with calm Mick Foley commentary as he talks about the beating he takes during this match. It's good to note that Terry Funk was already an old man at the time (He still hasn't retired. He's still doing this stuff) One thing to note is that the Japanese crowd doesn't express shock like American crowds. Instead they cheer and applaud for the competitors putting their lives on the line.

From Wikipedia: "With IWA getting more popular due to the charisma of some of their wrestlers, they decided to produce a show called Kawasaki Dream, which was held on August 20, 1995 at the Kawasaki Baseball Stadium. The main attraction of the show was the first ever 8-man single elimination deathmatch tournament, which featured Cactus Jack, Terry Funk, Shoji Nakamaki, Hiroshi Ono, Leatherface, Tiger Jeet Singh, Terry Gordy and former FMW wrestler Mr. Gannosuke.

The show also featured an NWA World Heavyweight Championship defense, as Tarzan Goto challenged then-champion Dan Severn for the title.

The standout in this tournament were the three matches in which Mick Foley wrestled. The first one was a "Barbed Wire, Baseball Bat, and Thumbtack Match". The second was a "Barbed Wire Board Spike Nail Match". The third was a "Barbed Wire Rope, Exploding C4, and Time Bomb Match."

2. Terry Funk vs Sabu - Barbed Wire Match

Terry Funk is 71 years old currently and still does matches like this. He has no intentions of retiring quietly. He's made millions of dollars and never suffered from any addictions or habits that blew through his money. He could retire calmly to his ranch in Texas or his farm in Indiana. Instead he'll be competing in "Sullivan's Slaughterhouse" soon.

This match is a classic from the days of ECW where, again, Terry Funk was already an old man. He's facing off against Sabu. Another old man who will not retire. Unlike Funk, Sabu does have problems with addiction and will do anything in a match for money. In this particular match he tears his bicep completely open on the barbed wire. He simply taped the 10 inch cut closed until later. The match ends with both of them stuck in the barbed wire and being cut free by ring techs.

ECW stood for Extreme Championship Wrestling and was created by Paul Heyman. It's no secret that ECW was more violence and sex than wrestling. However this match was so brutal Paul Heyman stated he would never schedule another barbed wire match, and he didn't. That's important to note because Paul is somewhat notorious for lying, but he kept his word this time.

3.  Daisuke Sekimoto and Abdullah Kobayashi vs Jun Kasai and Jaki - Light-bulb Death Match

So far in this list we've featured only American wrestlers. They were insanely violent. However in Japan they go to the next level. The reason being is that Japanese wrestlers consider scars left on their bodies as a mark of honor. They believe that if you do not have any scars, you do not care about the business. In matches like these they hope to scare their opponents but not hurt them. I'm not sure how that is possible.

This is also another outlier because it's a tag team match.Even when death matches were common it was still rare to see a tag team. The reasoning behind that is it's already dangerous with just two people involved. Adding more people simply increases the risk of injury.

4. New Jack vs Gypsy Joe

This one doesn't need much explanation. New Jack is crazy. He was paid for a match. He didn't know it was against an 62 or 97 year old man named Gypsy Joe. He also told New Jack how ECW originals weren't really hardcore and that he was going to teach him a lesson. New Jack is crazy, but he let this slide. Then the match starts and Gypsy Joe "no sells" all of New Jacks offense. New Jack let it slide and played along. Then Joe decided to punch New Jack in the mouth as hard as he could. New Jack didn't like that and then proceeded to beat an old man for several minutes. The old man would not simply lay down and be pinned. The bell rang and the match was called while the all white crowd hurled racial insults at New Jack, threatened to kill him and some even attacked him. New Jack, shockingly walked away while Gypsy Joe kept yelling at him he wasn't man enough to finish the job. Gypsy Joe is a racist old man who actually tried to hurt New Jack but he probably didn't deserve the beating he got. This one isn't on the list because it's bloody, it's on the list because it's real. Also, here's a video of New Jack talking about it. It's pretty funny. "They called me nigger so much I thought it was my name."

5. New Jack vs William Lane

William Lane is not a wrestler. William Lane lied and said he was a wrestler. William Lane was a 37 year old man who didn't realize there were aspects of wrestling that were fake. Stomp when you punch or kick so it sounds like it hurts more. Tuck your neck when being slammed so you don't injure yourself. Jump when your opponent lifts you to make it easier.

William Lane got in the ring and hit New Jack in the face as hard as he could as many times as he could. New Jack didn't have the patience he had for Gypsy Joe. New Jack stabbed William Lane 14 times with a screwdriver. He was arrested and charged with several felonies that night. The charges were dropped because New Jack agreed to train William Lane to be a wrestler. New Jack left Florida without William Lane and never went back.
