Anime and Manga Review: The World God Only Knows

Warning, there may be spoilers is this review. Read at your own caution. Enjoy the review and hopefully you’ll check out this series because it’s pretty damn good.

Intro

The World God Only Knows (TWGOK for short) is a harem anime that consist of comedy as well as many other things. Now you may be turned off by me just mentioning the word harem but hear me out because TWGOK is not a series to sleep on and honestly this series deserves more recognition.

Story

TWGOK is about a gaming otaku named Keima Katsuragi. Keima is a real nigga and let me tell you why. Keima just wants to play his video games, the games that he likes to play are dating sims. Keima loves playing dating sims and just wants to be left alone. I can relate to Keima in some ways, I just want to be left alone at times so I can chill watch anime and pro wrestling in peace. Anyways back to the story.Keima accepts a contract email offer to conquer girls. Keima thought this email contract was a game invitation but he was wrong. As a result Keima gets a demon sidekick by the name of Elsie and he now has to make certain girls fall in love with him to exorcise the evil spirits that within these girls. As the story progresses the plot gets really detailed and interesting. There is a detailed story about old hell, new hell, a secret group trying to rule the world, and goddesses appear in the story.

There are a lot of girls that Keima interacts with some of the girls play an important role in the story towards the end. Keima’s conquest with each girl is enjoyable and interesting due to the fact that Keima is like a strategist. Keima uses his experience from playing dating sims to help him determine his plan of action when trying to gain a girls love. Elsie also plays a big role in helping Keima out whenever he is engaging in a love conquest. Also Elsie plays a big role towards the end of the final arc.

Story/ My Thoughts

As you read/ watch this series you might have a favorite girl that you like. That is the beauty of TWGOK, there are so many girls that you’ll begin to like one and you’ll get emotionally invested in this series. I felt so bad for Tenri (one of the female characters that plays a huge role in this series) because she loved Keima since they were children and he didn’t choose her at the end of the series. Tenri is Hinata and Keima is Naruto except Naruto doesn’t fall in love with Hinata in this case. The last chapter really had me fucked up but Keima confessed his love to Chihiro. I have a love/hate relationship when it comes down to Chihiro. There was unfinished business after the Mai High Festival Arc between both Chihiro and Keima that made me ship them as a couple but still poor Tenri L.

There were only two arcs that I didn’t like in this series (the last one being one of them. The last arc is the most important arc story wise but the ending left me with mixed feelings. The last arc was great but I preferred the arcs when Keima was flexing his harem skills and making girls fall in love with him.

Overall this series is awesome and one of my personal favorites. TWGOK is great and the story is excellent. This is a series that I would recommend to everyone even if you’re not into harems. The fact that this series is a harem and the harem aspect doesn’t get in the way of the story is a huge plus!

There are a lot of great characters and TWGOK has 3 seasons out right now, hopefully the last season will be made. You should read the manga because the anime leaves some details out from the manga. Don’t watch the dub please don’t do it (Drake voice), watch the sub instead. TWGOK is definitely worth checking out! Hope you enjoyed my review.
