Nobody Wants VC

VC is a virtual currency used in 2K games. This VC replaced skill points and is used to improve your character in career mode. It can be bought or earned in almost every game mode. This VC can be used to buy new moves, celebrations, abilities etc. When NBA2K13 introduced VC some people were thrilled.

By some people I mean the people who would just buy it, then max out their player. Just so they could blow by you and dunk from the free throw line in black court. VC introduced nothing new. Anything VC does, could already be done with skill points. It was an unnecessary cash grab from the start. On top of that, it opened a bag of snakes. Players were simply paying so their characters could perform better. If you weren't online your VC was useless and your player was switched back to skill points, but you could never use VC again for that character. When the servers go down, the VC goes away so again, it's wasted. If you're buying the game now, don't even bother.

VC wasn't well liked, so 2K got rid of it. I'm joking, it's in NBA 2K15 as well and people still aren't happy. But that's not it. Last year when THQ went bankrupt 2K purchased the rights to the WWE game series. Now, this has actually been a beautiful relationship so far. 2K uses better scanning methods than THQ. They don't scan just the faces and draw the rest, they've increased the default roster by more than 30 wrestlers (With THQ you needed to buy DLC to get to 60). The roster is also up to date and features almost every current wrestler from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT as well as a few legends thrown in for good measure. They've added Visual Concepts to the development team with Yukes which has led to the introduction of a career mode. Think of this as the career mode from NBA2K with wrestlers. It's just as in depth with trainers and wrestlers voicing themselves.

This all sounds good. Then they dropped a bomb. VC is necessary to improve your character's skills and purchase not only new moves, and abilities but also hairstyles and clothing. As Stone Cold Steve Austin said many times before, what? Now, I could probably deal with VC but you guys screwed us on this one.

Wrestling is bigger than the WWE. There's thousands of wrestlers in the world and majority of people have favorites that aren't in the WWE, either because they're retired or just not in WWE. Because of this we have 100 slots for created characters. We also have community creations where we can upload and download these created versions of these characters. It's now necessary to earn every VC to update stats and abilities. Are you expecting us to take every character through career mode just to make sure there's not a version of Kenta out there with a 43 Overall and no abilities? Well that's just not very smart. This is all VCs fault.

VC has now been in 3 different NBA games and the only people who enjoy it work for 2K. Purchasing NBA players in blacktop mode with VC is a pain because if you're not online you couldn't even use those characters in some games.

What 2K doesn't realize is that this was tried in the past. In SmackDown vs Raw 2011 you had to earn skill points for every created character in skill mode. That was only in SmackDown vs Raw 2011 because fans were not putting up with that. 2K, this is your first wrestling game so let me tell you something about wrestling fans. Most of us can take wrestling or leave it. Most of the wrestling merchandise sold is for children. At a certain point it's just entertainment for most of us. We can take it or leave it. Ask THQ.

But, every now and then you see the 40 year old guy rocking the beard and vintage NWO T-Shirt. That's the guy you need to worry about. He's not going to boycott your game, he's going to call your office with all his friends. He's going to make youtube videos complaining. He's going to post on forums, he's going to harass you on Twitter and he's going to start a petition to get Corey Ledesma fired again. For those of you who don't know Corey is to WWE what Ronnie is to NBA. The point is, I don't care, I'm just not going to play the game. There will however be the wrestling fan who never grew up. Hulk Hogan is still a superhero to him. He's your problem, it's still real to him, VC is still fake to all of us. Good luck.
