It's Still Real To Me

I do a podcast about pro wrestling podcast with two other adult men. Yet, at least 3 times a week someone tweets us and tells us that pro wrestling is fake. I'm honestly shocked. I've never heard this news in my life. It's shocking. I'm not sure how to comprehend. These people are obviously lying to just upset us.

Those stories have to be real, you can't fake those. Sure every wrestling company has a creative team. But, they don't write the stories. They just decide which stories from real life to put on television. It's true. They could never write some of the things that happen. Seriously, when Al Snow was tricked into eating his own dog by Big Bossman that can't be written. Nobody would write that. That's disgusting, it had to happen in real life. Also, the cameras are following these guys around all the time. But, the cameras are invisible, they just can't see them. Why else would John Cena and Randy Orton constantly clash. Who would believe that they're friends in real life. Those guys really hate each other. There's no reason for friends to go out every week and just pretend to hate each other. These guys would kill each other if they met outside of WWE. WWE is a place sanctioned for mutual combat between people who hate each other. The other day some guy tried to tell me that the matches were predetermined. That's such crap.

Those matches are real. You can't fake that stuff. I mean look at the powerbomb through this steel ladder. That totally doesn't look like wood painted silver to fool people. There aren't any marked spots to symbol where the ladder will break. When it breaks that brown is just rusted steel. They also don't remove some of the supports on tables when they're going to get broken. It's all real.

Even the injuries are fake. This guy's leg didn't break in two it was just a camera trick. Droz is also known for being in a wheel chair. He's just faking because he's too lazy to wrestle. There's no way he's actually paralyzed.

I can't keep up the charade. Look, I've been a wrestling a fan for a long time. I'm not stupid. I know that almost every storyline that shows up is fake. There are rare exceptions when real life actually becomes a story. The love triangle between Edge, Lita and Matt Hardy, that part is true. It's in Edge's book. Jeff Jarrett sleeping with Kurt Angle's wife, that part is true. They're married now. The part about Road Warrior Hawk being an alcoholic, that's true. In rare situations real life does crossover onto the screen but that's rare and most people don't find out until long after it happens. I'd have to be stupid to believe that Hulk Hogan is immortal and has superpowers.

I showed the wooden ladder earlier in this post. But, for the most part the weapons are real. If a ladder is going to break, it's made of wood and marked so they know. The rest of the ladders are real. The tables are real, they do remove some of the supports, but that's it. Sometimes things are real. Mark Henry was The World's Strongest Man at one point in history, that part is true. I mention that because this steel chain he snaps in half is real. He also pulls trucks for charity If you don't believe me you can always ask Joey Mercury if this hurt.Yes, wrestlers train to make sure injuries don't happen. So do basketball players. But to pretend that it doesn't hurt is just stupid.

The other day I had someone tell me that the ring is a trampoline. Sorry, but that's just not true. You can watch a ring being built here. It's basically an elevated hard wood floor with a mattress pad on top. It's still going to hurt when you get suplexed on it.

The point is, you aren't doing the world some favor by yelling wrestling is fake. You're not going to stop people from watching it. I'm still going to watch. It's fun to suspend belief for a while and enjoy it. I'm not going to worship the ground they walk on. If I see a good match I'm probably going to talk about it the same way I would if I see a good football game. Pro wrestling is basically watching a sport with more interesting sotrylines. I'm going to keep watching, I'm going to keep enjoying, it.

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He's also playing Pokemon Liquid Crystal on YouTube
