EXID - Eclipse Album Review

EXID have released their 3rd EP titles Eclipse today. This album does not feature Solji as she is resting but this does not hinder the group in the slightest. The album opens with "Boy", a song about needing someone by their side. With Solji gone, the usual lineup in terms of line distribution=on is different yet it worked for this track. I love the vocals but the real focus here is on the beat. The new style that the girls are going for with this album is great. On "Boy" the beat truly pops and is a great opener for the album.

Next we have the title track "Night Rather Than Day" which is about only wanting to see each other at night because that's when love is the most genuine. This may be the best title track EXID has created and I loved them all except for Hot Pink. Even though the song is quite smooth in the lyrics, its very upbeat in the instrumentation. The use of live instruments compliments the song so perfectly. "How Why" follows up before we get to the two solo tracks of Hani and LE. The clear focus of this track was simply the beat with some cool lyrics in between. I do love the "How Why How Why" chants during the beat break.

I love that Hani and LE have solo tracks here but we don't have a song with Junghwa and Hyerin like on "Street". I lover their track and I'm sure another would have made this album even better. "How Why" ends the EDM and Pop style as LE and Hani have cool, sensual R&B tracks. The composition on "Woo Yoo" is great. The guitar just pulls at my heart as Hani's lovely voice serenades my ears. "Velvet" is none other than a song about sex. LE'ss voice is perfect here as her rather annoying voice is extremely sexy here as she croons "Like Velvet". I loved the trap inspired beats and the track honestly sounded like what velvet would sound like.

Overall I thought this was a very solid album. I'm enjoying this a lot and I can see no flaws here. I even listen to the instrumental of Night Rather Than Day. I usually hate when Korean artists put the instrumental to the lead track at the end but I like it on this album. It leaves us on a rather happy note plus its really good without the lyrics as well. I rate this album a 4/5.
