Top 10 Songs: Month of February 2017

So much great music came out this month that I decided to make it a top 20 list and actually rank the tracks this time. Adding the ranks made this even harder but fun to do. I doubt I'll have to do this again but this was such a good month that maybe the rest of the year will be like this.

20. Vince Staples - Bagbak
Vince came back with a fire ass, yet politically charged track about loving his black skin, police brutality and how there needs to be more color in the White House. The beat goes hard as I found myself jamming to it from the first chorus. "Tell the 1% to suck a dick because we on now" is a funny yet true line. Overall its a fire track that I can jam to as well as take seriously.

19. Basick - My Wave
Fam, you already know Basick went hard on this track. The beat was sick as well. The only thing I don't like is Sik-K's verse. It was very lackluster and forgettable. I'm glad Basick had a second verse after because it truly saved the song. He needs to lose the autotune. But back to Basick, this track is fire. I can't wait for more releases from him.

18. Seol.A - Be My
I was excited about this track as her previous two tracks with producer Eachone were astounding, especially Moonlight which featured Boi B. Be My features rapper Freelow and this track is great. The chemistry between the two is uncanny. The only thing I don't like about the song is the way it ends, its doesn't. It leaves off sort of on a cliff hanger. Good song nonetheless.

17. Myundo - Ghood Life
What is there not to love about this track? Myundo goes a different route with this track as its more R&B and boom bap compared to his other tracks which are usually trap flavored. Myundo. Bizzy, and Yoon Mirae sing and rap of a good life with their friends, family and the path that they have carved for themselves. This is my favorite track from his recently released second EP "RGB pt(0,255,0)". Its a beautiful track that everyone should listen to.

16. Don Malik - Mowgli
Like I said on Chicago K Pop, this song right here can be an anthem. A song that everyone listens to that is a banger but has quality lyrics. Don Malik vibrantly expresses his feelings about his survival tactics while the beat, which was produced by Justhis, compliments him so well. Its such an upbeat track.

15. Taeyeon - Feel So Fine
I can't say this is my favorite song on the album but this maybe it. Feel So Fine gives me vibes from Taeyeon's EP "Why". Her singing just flows so softly into my ears with the captivating beat that just flutters on my skin. This is definitely one of the best songs on the album.

14. KARD - Don't Recall
This song is the perfect combination of everything. I can dance to it, twerk to it, be in my feelings to it, sing karaoke to it, and blast this in my car. The vocal chords on Jiwoo and Somin are out of this world. I was not expecting such beauty in their voices. J.Seph and BM are cool but I can tell they haven't shown us all that they have because BM can go hard.  The beat goes hard, and its hard to believe that this type of production is being given to such a rookie group, yet they have handled it so well. With this song, the group feels like a veteran group.

13. Bloo - Better
I live in Chicago. I don't know what its like to live in Pasadena but I think Bloo got it right here on Better. I can picture myself driving around in LA chilling to this track. The beat was produced with Big Banana who has been able to capture the styles of each MKIT Rain artist perfectly like Louis Maui. I'm definitely putting Better in my drinking playlist. Its a nice song to chill to while getting tipsy.

12. Code Kunst - Stronger
You knew a Code Kunst track would make it here. I love stronger because we got two great verses from Mino and Loco plus Mino on the chorus is just a even better touch. The beat of course goes in, but I think he chose the best rappers to fir the style of this beat. I can't see anyone else doing what Mino and Loco did here. This is a very solid track. The drums hit my soul.

11. G2 - Hymn II
I did not like Hymn when it first came out almost two years ago but Hymn II is really good. Compared to he first that was moody, this one is very chill. I like G2 really meant for this track to be chill as he has no hook and the chorus is just him saying "uhh" for 5 lines. That would usually annoy me but in the context of this song, its pretty cool. Dope track that I definitely blast in the whip.

10. Skull - Crazy
Just like Cave Me In, this song took me over from the start. I never listened to Skull before but with a feature from KittieB and Verbal Jint, I knew I had to be here. KittieB's voice fits perfectly over reggae beat's chorus and Skull's signing was enticing. Verbal Jint spit a dope and lively verse making this song a complete beauty. Skull definitely brought the summer to the winter with this song.

9. Red Velvet - Talk To Me
The way that the songs starts reminds me of the chorus for Russian Roulette where the voices are chopped up. I liked that aspect a lot but the best part has to be the beat. This is definitely a Red Velvet track but it has a western feel to it. The girls voices are of course splendid as always. I bump to this track on a regular. Its low key twerk worthy.

8. Zion T - Cinema
I can never get enough of the chill vibes that Zion T gives us time after time. Cinema hits the spot between chill and being in your feelings. I like to listen to this track at night when I'm driving because it helps clear my head.

7. Soma - Midnight in Paris
I've been following Soma for a year now and I've never been disappointed. With the release of her EP "SomaBlu" I'm in my happy place. Midnight in Paris is my favorite track as it very upbeat and sweet compared tot he rest of the album. Plus her vocals are out of this world.

6. Hash Swan - Whitney
Another track from Shangri-la that I can not get enough of. Whitney is a little darker compared to the other tracks as Swan,, Quiett and Dok2 rap about loving them selves and hanging with only their squad. My favorite part is Quiett on the Chorus saying "I love myself like Whitney". Fire track.

5. Hash Swan - Chills
When the beat dropped I didn't know what I was doing but I was grooving. The entire "Shangri-la" EP was a bit of a stretch for Hash Swan beat wise, as I'm used to his trap music but this was more groovy. The tracks were a lot lighter but still kept his usual style. Chills just speaks to my dancing heart and its a song that just takes over me.

4. Wutan - 808
As I said on Chicago K Pop, this song takes over my body like a poltergeist as soon as the beat drops. Wutan and Don Mills spit fire over TK's trap beat. Honestly, I can't explain this song. You have to let the song tell you how to feel like I did. This gets blasted in the car 24/7.

3. Syd - No Complaints/Know
I've been having trouble trying to pick my favorite song from the album. I picked No Complaints because it was only a minute, the other song was hard. I've changed it so many times but these seem to be the two I listen tot he most. The beat for Know goes hard. It reminds me of an early 2000's R&B joint but more modern so it fits Syd's style. The beat and lyrics for No Complaints go hard. "Ridin round yo city in a mother fuckin Spaceship" just hits my nerdy soul so perfectly.

2. Tablo, Gallant, Eric Nam - Cave Me In
From the first chord I got chills down my spine, and then Gallant started singing which sent my senses into sensory overload. Gallant and Eric Nam's singing plus Tablo's verse and that chill ass yet enticing beat made for a perfect Winter, Spring, Fall and Summer jam. This is collaboration of the year right here.

1. Wonder Girls - Draw Me
Before I pres play, each time, I feel sad because this is the last song from the Wonder Girls. It also doesn't help that the beat is very mellow and gives off a sad vibe. Its not so much a sad song but its one I see myself playing when I'm down in the dumps. It is very dreamy and melodic though. The rapping and singing were on point from all the members but my favorite part has to be the singers with their soft and captivating voices. Long Live WG.
