CLC - CRYSTYLE Album Review

CLC have released their 5th EP "CRYSTYLE" and you just know I've been waiting for it to drop. I've been very critical of CLC since their debut as I enjoyed their first and second EP's but didn't care for High Heels but I loved their fourth EP, Nu:Clear. Now let me tell you my thoughts on CRYSTYLE.

The album starts off with Liar. Liar feels like a CLC song but it has some innovations in the beat. It has some EDM like breakdowns during the chorus that I enjoy. The lyrics are pretty good as the song is about a break up that they never saw coming. The singing from everyone here is great and Yeun's rapping was on point. Its honestly a solid song and should have been released as a double single with Hobgoblin.

Speaking of Hobgoblin, I don't like this song. Its not even the 4Minute comparison or soundalike, its that the song itself is annoying. The lyrics are messy at times and the chorus is annoying. The rest of the song isn't even that bad the lead up to the mediocre chorus just doesn't cut it. This isn't a bad song but just not a track I can get behind compared to the rest of the album. It may grow on me in the future.

Next on the album is "Mistake" and I wasn't feeling it at first but this song had definitely grown on me by the second listen. The song is about falling in love with a dumbass. We all make those mistakes, no pun indented. But I love this song the singing and rapping were good, the beat was nice and it wasn't a complete switch up in musical styles compared to the previous songs. The lyrics are good and the way the chorus is sung reminds me of a R&B song from the 90's.

"Meow Meow" follows and it reminds me of F(x)'s song MILK and 4Minute's Canvas just a tad bit. So the song is about a guy trying to have sex but they're not ready for that kind of activity. Its a mature track without being heavily sexual or forced. I like this song a lot. Everything was nice and that trap breakdown towards the end was hot as hell. I Mean That is my favorite track on the album. It has a Western feel almost as if Keri Hilson worked on it. Its very upbeat and the lyrics are cool. I feel the Summer when I listen to this track.

The album ends with a ballad which I think is their best yet. "Depression" is a great send off song with lyrics of trying to forget a past love but you simply can not. The composition was great as well as the lyrics and singing. Great way to end the album. I'm rating this album a 4/5 which is the highest rating I've given a CLC album yet. I enjoyed this album a lot and I think its their best album yet. It has tons of replay ability and shows off a lot of color for the group. I'm glad they finally got to do a concept that wasn't school girl or cute. I hope their next project will be even better.
