5 of The Best Diss Songs of all Time

A lot of people are talking about how great the Meek Mill and Drake beef is. It's played out and all we got is three subpar diss tracks and one most people never heard of. Back to Back was alright but not pretend Drake didn't come out singing lullabys to Meek with Charged Up. What did Meek do? He responded with a bunch of inside jokes that nobody outside of the industry got. The 4th diss, well that came from Safaree, Nicki Minaj's ex who was just chilling but caught random shots from Meek. Then he bodied Meek and Nicki too. Said he knew Drake had a ghostwriter and it wasn't news. Said he wrote Nicki's rhymes and if you listen to his music, they do sound similar. 12 years could do that to a man especially when he knew she was cheating.

Anyway I see these internet kids, as Joey Badass calls them, don't really know what a diss track should sound like. They think gently speaking to another man over a metronome is ending a career. They think Drake is the first rapper to use PowerPoint during a concert. Well, I went ahead and got 30 of the best diss tracks and put them all in one place for you. They're in no particular order but they're all better than anything that came out of this beef. Sit back and enjoy when winners weren't determined by the fact that one man has ten times the fans as the other. Seriously it'd be like Jay Z beefing with Riff Raff.

This is totally just the start of a series on diss tracks and I just don't have a name for it yet. Leave a comment and suggest one. Stay tuned for future parts.

1. 50 Cent - Piggy Bank

Remember when 50 Cent wasn't beefing with the mother of Rick Ross' child or filing for bankruptcy? Remember when he was actually beefing? People like to talk about the JaRule beef but this was just 50 being petty. He went at Jadakiss because "New York niggas like your vocals, but that's only New York dog, yo ass is local" he also finally responded to Shyne who threatened to have him killed. Before the 50 and Game beef started he threw the first shout by depicting Game as Mr. Potato Head in the video.

Anyone who knows me knows Nas is my favorite rapper but I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh at "Kelis said her milkshake bring all the boys to the yard, then Nas went, and tattooed the bitch on his arm, I mean like way out in Cali niggas know you, cuz, first thing they say about you is you's a sucker for love" this was before the divorce too. This was just poking fun at all Nas other failed relationships. (Nas later admitted he was indeed a sucker for love.) This was just one of 50's best outings post Get Rich or Die Trying. It was a diss track but it was funny.

2. The Game - Red Bandanna

Red Bandanna isn't the most vicious diss track from Game to 50 but it's important because Game didn't even want beef with 50. He points out how 50 tried to tell people Game was the reason for the rise of gang activity in New York. Game admitted he's a gang member but states he didn't do that and 50 was just a snitch and a liar. He also pointed out how 50 is paranoid that everyone is out to get him. One thing Game and 50 have in common is near death experiences due to 50 being shot 9 times and Game being put into a comma due to his gunshot wounds. Game isn't paranoid like 50.

He also states 50 Cent was just jealous that Game started his own label and was still able to get support from Dr. Dre and Eminem who both remained neutral in this beef until eventually Dr. Dre stopped working with 50 completely sometime later because Game was willing to let the beef die and 50 wouldn't. He then goes on to talk during the outro, which is what 50 does so he doesn't have to write a third verse. Game just uses it to make fun of how G-Unit was slowly dying. The shoes weren't selling, the movie was a flop. Not a good look 50. One of the things about Game is he's always admitted he's a fucked up individual. But 50 was no angel. While 50 was painting a picture of Game as a no good gang banger, Game was pointing out 50 is no better.

3. The Game - 240 Bars

Game really did make a career out of dissing anybody who mentioned. One person that was not on his radar was Spider-Loc. Spider-Loc was Game's replacement in G-Unit, but Game had no idea. Game even met him at at a video shoot when Game was being a nice guy. DMX said Spider thought he was better than Game so Game starts freestyling. Soon after Spider-Loc has miraculously become a Crip, like Game was a Blood and from Compton, like Game. Game let this slide because again, he has no idea who Spider-Loc is. Then Spider-Loc puts out a ton of diss tracks and Game hears his name so he goes back to the hood and gets the scoop on Spider-Loc. He's not a real gang member, he just goes to whichever gang he can make the most money with at the time. But, his his brother is a real gang member.

His brother also snitched on a lot of people to reduce his jail time. Game writes 240 bars. A Spider-Loc diss. This is important because Spider-Loc was soon expelled from G-Unit and never heard from again. Spider-Loc had been bragging about his XXL cover only for it be a full spread of everyone on the G-Unit label. Everyone knows Tony Yayo is one of the worst rappers ever and just like Kidd Kidd is promoted only by 50 Cent's money. Game states "Tony yayo you old ass coward you 36 and u spit your hottest verse on my album, now.. I ain't sayin that you dope nigga..but you better than spider loc Nigga" If someone says Tony Yayo is a better rapper than you, just give up. Game really did kill his career with this one track. His only response to Spider-Loc and Spider-Loc was never heard from again.

4. The Game - 300 Bars and Runnin

This was it. This is a top 5 diss song in history. You can not name 5 diss songs better than this. Game has dropped more diss tracks than anyone in the history of rap but this, this is his his masterpiece. 13 minutes and 23 beats of nothing but fire. Everyone got hit from G-Unit to Rocafella to anyone else Game was beefing with. You knew it was going to be dope when you heard a little girl say "I like 50 Cent. He remind me of Sponge Bob and Loyd Banks is Blue's Clues" Jay Z was retiring so Game tells him "I'm saying if you gonna retire, then hand me the crown, nah let Bleek do it, then throw him a concert in Madison Square, watch everybody sleep through it." Memphis Bleek is a dope rapper who doesn't bother anyone but his stage game is a little boring. Game didn't have any reason to do that an Bleek never responded because he really doesn't care. Then Game disses the Young Gunz asking Jay "What you thought? Them was the only niggas that rapped in Philly?" Then he goes on to shout out Beanie Siegel but point out everyone who sided with Dame Dash over Jay Z is stupid.

The G-Unit bars were crazy. Some the best are "Olivia, for a man she hot," Lloyd Banks "You wanna rhyme like Lloyd Banks, repeat after me, I'm a G-Unit toy soldier on Sesame Street doing voice overs, bitch ass nigga need a rhyme dictionary, to rehearse his line" Young Buck got the worst because he hadn't dissed Game until right before this track. "I tried to spare you Young Buck, now it's time for payback it go, how you from Cashville but you ain't got no cash nigga," Young Buck did indeed go bankrupt. He continues with "Juve left you for dead and went back to the NO, 50 heard you on the tour bus and felt your little flow, then he made you temporary replacement for Yayo, you a bitch, and that's hard to swallow, and you got robbed for your spinning G-Unit chain in Chicago, I call my nigga Jojo to get it back, he had the shit in his hands, and you ain't had the ten stacks" All of those things did happen. Juvenile did drop Young Buck from Cash Money. He was originally filling in while Tony Yayo was in jail. He did get his chain stolen. He continues to paint 50 as jealous and a lame rapper who got lucky and would never have another hit album, he didn't.

My favorite 50 Cent diss on the tack goes:
"I miss the old king that new york had, who's this fake nigga, on pictures with the Jake nigga, got his crew starving cause he ate the whole cake, nigga, he ain't Nas, ain't B.I.G., ain't Jigga, if he ain't Cube or Pac then who you got? We getting tired of you talkin about who you shot, I'll use another six bars to tell you who you not, you ain't 50 Cent, he went out like a gangsta, you went out with Vivica, three months after Wanksta, Get Rich or Die Tryin, we thought you was hot, now the same nigga wanna take us to the Candy Shop, 'mon man, what happened to the thug, now you could find in the club, him and Lloyd Banks hugging"
50 is greedy. He's keeping all the cake, both money and baked goods. That's a double entendre. He was keeping all the cake as in money which is why Young Buck went broke. He was eating all the actual cake too which is why he felt he was too fat to be on the cover of The Massacre. There was a famous stick up kid in New York called 50 Cent. The idea of 50 and Lloyd Banks in the club hugging while "Candy Shop" plays is hilarious, but it happened. Game stop with these jokes. G-Unit didn't deserve to die like this. The track literally gives off heat. To sum it up I'll quote Game "Remember first it was Buddens, then it was Bleek, now it's whoever motherfucker, yeah, who want beef?"

5. Jadakiss - Checkmate

This isn't even a three minute track and I want to break down almost every line because it's hilarious. Jadakiss starts the track by congratulating 50 on selling over a million copies of The Massacre in just 5 days. Jadakiss is a nice guy, however he didn't forget about that "Piggy Bank." He starts with "We gon' handle this like grown men, you won't win, you don't even feel comfortable in your own skin," that's not a joke about 50 being transgender. It's a joke about 50 having himself painted on the cover of The Massacre with a 6 pack because he felt like he was getting fat and didn't want to take his shirt off. 50 said it, not me. Jadakiss continues with "I heard you put a couple good niggas behind bars, I might never sell that much, but you can bet your last 2 quarters, I never tell that much." Jadakiss knows knows he doesn't sell that many records. It bothers him. He wants to know why people always talk about how great he is but don't by his records. He admits it, he's local. He'll never sell as much as 50 Cent, but he'll also never snitch on as many people as 50 did.

He continues with "Picture 'Kiss not come out swingin', it's like going to see 50 at a show and he don't come out singing," Jadakiss will always come out swinging he's not hiding. Meanwhile 50 Cent sang a lot on The Massacre and was opening shows with the song "Candy Shop." Jadakiss also points out 50 could never be King of New York like he was claiming because "Never the King of New York, you live in Connecticut." We all know 50 Cent got shot 9 times but Jadakiss asks a valid question "Since when has it become cool to get shot and not shoot back?" That is a good question. Getting shot isn't cool and 50 didn't even shoot back. He keeps going with "Trackmasters shelfed you, Bravehearts helped you." 50 you did get your album shelved by Trackmasters. Braverhearts is the group Nas was in with his brother Jungle and they did indeed help 50 when he was starting out. Then 50 started dissing Nas because Nas would still hangout with The Game. That's petty 50. My favorite two lines in the song are "You ain't get shot again yet, so what's your second album about?" It was love songs Jadakiss. That's why nobody bought any of the albums after. Also "You had to get shot 9 times to be rich," it's funny because Jadakiss is rich and never had to get shot.

Come back tomorrow for more diss tracks, including T.I. and 50 Cent.

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He also plays classic arcade games on The Cabinet

    1. I don't think it's going to be a formal series. I think I'm going to just randomly put them out.

  2. What about Canibus' "Second-Round Knockout" on LL Cool J? Oh, and here's another one that isn't hip-hop but still quite legendary. John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?" towards Paul McCartney.

    1. I had never heard the John Lennon song before today. Now I'm really interested in looking at the background on that.

  3. You're absolutely right about 300 Bars and Running being one of the top diss tracks of all time. The Game killed that one. Love the inclusion of Jada's Checkmate. For some reason, I don't remember hearing 240 Bars before. Thanks for introducing that one to me. I'll be watching this series to see if some of my favorites make the cut.

    1. Spider-Loc pretty much gave up rap afterwards so I guess there was no real reason to plug it. 300 Bars will always be one of my favorites but Jadakiss shows you only need three minutes at most.
