IDFWU: The Hotep

IDFWU is a simple acronym that stands for I Don't Fuck With You. It's been a while since I've done one of these but there are still plenty of things I do not fuck with. Who is it today? It's the Hotep, The Ashy Kings, The Deep Thinkers. You know these guys even if you don't realize you know them. They're the ones who always talk about black people being kings and queens in Africa but can only point to Egypt as an example. The ones who think black lives matter but only for men. The ones who dislike LBGTQ people because that's a creation of the white man and doesn't happen in Africa.

Where do we start? Let's start with the Kings and Queens in Africa. You should probably research outside of Egypt. Sure, there were a lot of monarchies in Africa. There were even more places without kings and queens. In fact, most of the monarchies in Africa's history were created when European countries invaded in the name of colonization. They set up false monarchies to give the people some kind of sense of control when they really had none. Sure there were kings and queens of actual kingdoms but most ended up dead due to power struggles. That's no different than kings an queens anywhere. Also there's a really low chance you were royalty anyway, you know, bloodlines and all of that. But what do I know, I call myself Original King D. Maybe I'm a Hotep... nah.

What is with this idea of black women that the Hotep seem to hold on to? You could have a degree but chose to twerk instead. Why not both? Why do black lives matter but only for men? Isn't that kind of against the point? It's not black male lives matter. Where's this idea that black women need to shutup and take a back seat coming from? Since you're so stuck up on royalty maybe you should look up Queen Yaa Asantewa. She was a warrior and exiled from Ghana with a small number of troops who faced off against the British Military. She was one of the last to fight against colonization. What about Queen Nefertiti who ended the war between upper and lower Egypt? Queen Candace of Ethiopia who forced Alexander The Great to retreat? You just gonna overlook the queens?

It's not just queens either. Great warriors, doctors and everything else. Even here in America black women have historically been on the front lines fighting. Not just for themselves either, but for your black ass too. But you want to ignore that because the white man is trying to take down a great black man in Bill Cosby. Nah, Bill raped all of them women. He's the most prolific rapist in history and didn't face any jail time for it. You defending the same old man who would probably say you deserved to die because your pants sag. All because you've got some kind of vendetta against women. In the eternal words of Nas "You seem to be only concerned with dissing women. Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?"

What about that "gay shit," that didn't exist in Africa before the white man invented it? You should be used to being wrong at this point. One of the greatest warriors of all time is Shaka Zulu. He never took a wife in his life. He also slept with his soldiers. Not like shared a bed, but sex. He had gay sex with his soldiers. In fact he told them "do not seek the love of a woman for it will make you weak. If you want to be strong, seek the love on your fellow men." Yes, Shaku Zulu was giving out that love, but only to the men. There just wasn't enough of him to go around for the ladies. Now, to be fair some people have argued that Shaka wasn't gay so let's look at some other examples. The Zande people were the only group never to be colonized. People often were married from the ages of 12-20 which isn't strange when you think about how short life spans were back then. Here's the thing, a good portion of those were gay marriages. There were also situations when old warriors would have sex with young men in exchange for combat training. The Zande aren't even the only group of people to do these things, not by a long shot either. I just chose them because they're often praised as the strongest warriors in Africa.

My favorite is King Nzinga. King Nzinga was actually a woman. However, she chose to be addressed as a man and behaved as so. In a twist however she kept a harem. Now, this wasn't a harem of women with vaginas. Instead, it was a harem of men who identified as women. The whole idea of gender roles and sexual orientation wasn't even a thing in Africa until colonization introduced Christianity. So wouldn't you be the one who is "indoctrinated by the white man?"

Hotep are just fake deep guys who learned a little about history in class but didn't pick up anything else.  They hate women because they've got some kind of problem with their moms or something, I don't know. They're the type who talk about being African kings and queens but also want to date outside of their race like it gives them some kind of unlimited pass to disrespect black women. I'm also pretty sure most have never been to Africa. How can you afford to go to Africa if you're still sleeping on your parents' couch?

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He also plays classic arcade games on The Cabinet

Hey, I write stuff, a lot of different stuff, that's all.

  1. Great post. However, Eastern Africa had Christianity before Europe. Some historians argue only 10 years after Christ. I agree with everything your saying about Hoteps, just wanted to share that tidbit.
