Beenzino - 24:26 Album Review

Another Edition of Vintage Reviews

I have finally been able to sit down and listen to Korean Rapper Beenzino who is one of 3 signed under Illionaire Records. I first heard of Beenzino on HA:TFLT's song Bond. I liked his verse but I never was able to get into him at the time. This was back in July. I finally sat down to listen to him and now here is my review of his first Album 24:26 which was released in 2012.

This is a refreshing album by Beenzino. The first five songs showcases Beenzino's nice flow and lyrics which range from a few different topics. There are the love songs Nike Shoes and Aqua Man. Nike Shoes is about how stylish a girl is while Aqua Man is about Beenzino seeing himself as a fish in the vast heart or sea of a girl he has fallen in love with. She pays him no mind while he swims in her essence waiting on her. This is a great song. The beat itself is enough for you to fall in love with it. It has an upbeat tempo even though it is kind of depressing.

Crap featuring label mate Dok2 and underground rapper Okasian is about adjusting to fame as well as its effects on the people around them. Its a good song with well written verses by all three rappers. Summer madness featuring label mate The Quiett and Boogie on and On are party songs that you can really let loose to. Summer Madness is a great song for the Summer by the way.

"Summertime summertime
The winter which I've thought would last forever died away after all"

You can bet I will be blasting this when I'm in my car this summer.

The last 4 songs on the album portray a more mature and serious Beenzino. I'll Be Back, If I Die Tomorrow, and Always Awake tells the story of Beenzino's past, present and future. Beenzino used to dream of being a painter in a foreign land that he learned English in while his family worried about him. He continues to think of himself in the future while he tries to live his life in the present while he can. Profile is just a song about his rise to fame.

Unlike other rappers, Beenzino is able to paint a picture with his words. He not only talks about past love but how he react to his new surroundings and what his life really means. Beenzino has simple yet powerful lyrics. Anyone can quite relate to his music if you just listen. Beenzino has definitely become one of my favorite Korean Rappers with this album. I give 24:26 a rating of 8/10. I highly recommend it to all of you who want to listen to a good rapper with good lyrics. His beats are always on point as well. 24:26 definitely goes down as one of my favorite hip hop albums as well.
