Black Superhero: Falcon (Sam Wilson)

Falcoln

Sam Wilson group up in the mean streets of Harlem. His father was a minister. However Sam didn't really understand the whole religion thing. One night he told his parents that he didn't plan on going to church anymore. Instead of passing out like most ministers Sam's dad went out and returned with holy books for various religions and books against religion. He believed it was Sam's choice to make. The next night Sam's dad tried to break up a robbery and died because of that. Two years later, his mother was killed by a mugger.

Sam tried to become a social worker and community activist so that others would not have to deal with the loss he did. But Sam didn't choose the streets. The streets chose Sam. Sam took up the name Snap Wilson. Snap began working as a racketeering boss for the mob. Sure he wanted to be a good guy, but he chose to join the mob instead.

Sam was returning from a trip in Rio Di Jenaro when his plane crashed. He was shot down over an unknown Caribbean Island. There, the Red Skull finds him. The Red Skull figures he can use Sam as the greatest threat to Captain America. (Because Captain America doesn't bring justice to us, it's JUST US. I really have no idea where Red Skull was going with this) He would make Sam a superhero then once he was best friends with Captain America he would use Sam to kill him. This plan would take decades and doesn't make as much sense as shooting him in the back.

Red Skull used the Cosmic Cube to change Snap back into Sam. He also gave Sam the power to talk to birds, like Aquaman talks to fish, except Falcon can't give people seizures. Sam helped Captain America defeat Red Skull that night. This plan was failed before it even started. Anyway, once they returned to New York, Sam became the Falcon and became Captain America's side kick, partner.

Sam once again became a social worker and activist, because for some reason nobody remembers that he was a notorious mobster a few weeks prior. Seriously, this was never explained. Sam even pretended to be Captain America for a while when he pretended to be dead. Just like Iron Man pretended to be dead and War Machine took over for him. Was he Issiah Bradley, because I know he couldn't pass as Steve.

Thanks to Black Panther, Wilson actually became able to fly. Thanks Black Panther, you made another black character an actual threat to the bad guys because I could probably take him in a fight before. One day Sam was undergoing electroshock therapy at S.H.I.E.L.D because people normally do that? Anyway people found out and the mob put a price on his beak. See what I did there? Because his name is Falcon and a beak is on his head and...

Falcon was once offered an Avengers membership. However, after serving for a few weeks he realized that he was only there to serve a minority membership quota since neither Rage nor Luke Cage were members at that time. Once he realized this he left and didn't talk to captain America for a while. But they got back together. Their love was so strong that when Red Skull activated the kill code for Falcon, Captain America erased the mind washing with a hug.

During the Civil War Falcon fought alongside Iron Man, that was a joke he stayed with his best friend Steve. When Captain America died, guess who investigated the death? If you said Batman you were wrong, it was Falcon. They were of course happily reunited.

Honestly Falcon is my least favorite black superhero of all time, and one of my least favorite heroes of all time, I'm only covering him because he's gained popularity due to the new Captain America movie. Here's my problem with falcon. He's nothing more than a sidekick for Captain America. Every time you see Falcon, Captain America is near by.  Falcon has never had a major story about Sam Wilson, because Captain America is always there to save him and Falcon is always there to clean up the light work for Captain America. I can understand during the brain washing story. But that story was over years ago, but for some reason Falcon is always within arms length of Captain America, just in case he needs to be put in his place or sentenced to some remedial task. Falcon got out of line leaving the Avengers because he was a token. So what happened Captain America put him in his place and what did Falcon do? He got back in his place. Captain America is having a problem fighting an enemy, call in Falcon. Captain America needs a ride to the airport, call Falcon. Captain America can't open the pickle jar, call Falcon.

I hate Falcon. Every time Falcon attempts to go solo he has to return to Captain America for help. Why should he continue to be submissive and happy with the status quo? Why shouldn't he aim higher. Falcon is, a novelty. "Hey check out the black guy in the avengers, he was a criminal but overcame it. Isn't he cool, he's the only one like him," Falcon is a token and knows it, but he doesn't say anything about it because he doesn't want to lose that spot. Aat least War Machine said forget Tony and went solo. At least Luke Cage's writers made Luke stop shucking, jiving and over using slang. Read Black Lightning he's the anti Falcon.
