Bleed Them Dry #1-2 Review: "When Horror Becomes Wallpaper, You Get Numb"

*Spoiler Free Review*

"Bleed Them Dry" is a new comic from Vault Comics created by Hiroshi Koizumi, written by Eliot Rahal and drawn by Dike Ruan. The story takes place in the future of 3333 where an "Asylum" of Vampires live with humans. Detectives Halloway and Atticus are unfolding a crime that would eventually rock the entire Asylum.

The story is pretty simple. Vampires and Humans live amongst each other but not in peace. People fear the Vampires, Vampires fear the Humans. Thus, peace is relative as the time of day. When a former Police Detective goes rogue, what will our heroes do to stop the tyrant? Issue 1 serves as a great introductory issue to the series. Issue 2 continues the story while also continuing the world building and letting us know just how big this world is. As I said, the story is easy to follow but that's not a bad thing. Because of that, as a reader, you are able to theorize what's going to happen next. When a story allows its readers to theorize while creating its universe, it's doing a great job.

The drawings are nice but the true beauty is in the contrast of dark and light colors. As the city buildings are clad in black, the sky line is filled with pink and blue hues. Although the art isn't stunning, the coloring leaves you struck with appreciation. This is a true example of "simplicity is key". With 2 issues in and the 3rd arriving September 9th, "Bleed Them Dry" is a great new read. I also recommend this series to first time or new comic readers. I can't wait for the rest of the story to unfold.
