The candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast. That phrase describes Milestone to a T. Some of the best comics ever that left a lasting impression on readers and generations that followed despite being around for only a brief amount of time. They both lasting heroes like Static, Hardware, Rocket and Icon. With rumors of a relaunch circling for the last few years anticipation is reaching a peak. Despite all that, Milestone is trash.
I have to put a disclaimer before these posts now, otherwise people will hundreds of tweets about how we're ruining blerd culture, or Shazam deserves respect. It's a joke, don't take yourself too seriously. Without further warning here's 20 reasons Milestone is trash:
1. The costumes are bad, all of them are just plain bad.
2. No digital. Now, at the time of Milestone there were no digital releases and that's fair. But, it's 2018? If I want to read Milestone I shouldn't have to track down one issue at a time and pay a fortune or download pictures of each page from seedy backwoods site that probably used my compute to mine cryptocurrency.
3. Quick name 5 members of the Shadow Cabinet. That's what I thought
4. The Shadow Cabinet is the worst secret society plotting control of the world ever. They kept getting found and all they did was fight each other.
5. Sidekicks, they just couldn't get them right. Rocket led the show, Page was useless and Technique is just a copy of Hardware.
6. There's never a short story arc, everything is at least six chapters. You're going to get the message pounded into your head and you're going to like it. Who do they think they are? One Piece?
7. Deathwish is Punisher but with a conscience
8. Kobalt is just a more violent Batman
9. John Tower is a twisted Mr. Fantastic. Marvel even stole his story to create The Maker version of Reed
10. Icon is totally black Superman
11. Blue Marvel, Val-Zod and Calvin Ellis are all better at being black Superman
12. You can't even remember most of the villains. Holocaust, Alva, Dr. Nemo, John Tower and... who?
13. Who names a person Holocaust
14. You based a whole company in the midwest. I'm from the midwest, nothing happens out here but drugs and violence....oh
15. Long Hot Summer, but it's only 3 issues
16. Sure there were some cool names but a lot were bad. Names like Iron Butterfly, Iota, DMZ and Plus don't exactly leave lasting impressions.
17. Icon is the Clarence Thomas of comic books
18. We still haven't gotten that relaunch
19. The company is called "Milestone Media" but the only media they ever did beyond comics was Static Shock
20. Everything they ever did got cancelled
