Flame of Recca Volume 15 Review: They Want Smoke

Chapters 138-147

The fight between Joker and Kaoru comes to an end with Joker forfeiting. I am sick and tired of great and strong villains in this series leaving just because they feel like it. Finish the fucking fight. Get killed, kill someone, actually lose and not, "Well this was fun". This series continues to regurgitate the same fight over and over. Now Kaoru finally figured out the sixth mode but it was very lackluster.  All of the parts disconnect just to reform. It worked against Joker because of Joker's own ability but that won't work with anyone else. After the fight ends Kaoru forgives Joker and I don't know why. This just proves there is no character development in this series.

So after the match, Recca still isn't back but Kaoru wants a talk with Kurei, we learn that Kurei saved Kaoru when he ran away from an orphanage and tried to kill himself. It was a little shocking to find out Kaoru tried to kill himself but it doesn't have a big impact. But Kurei beat his ass anyway forcing the rest of Hokage and Saicho into the ring. Once again, Saicho is near death. Please kill this man. He clearly wants to die. But Kurei also beat the hell out of everyone else and right when he almost put Saicho out of his misery, Recca saves the day.

The fight between Kurei and Recca was fire. both of them came out swinging and Recca actually learned how to control his dragons as well as come up with cool new techniques. It seemed like Kurei was just holding back and Recca was right but then Kurei turned it up a notch and really got to cooking. But unexpectedly, instead of pulling out a full body Kurenai, he pulled out Jisho if Team Uruha Kurogane. The back story we get of Jisho, Neon and Raiha is pretty cool and shows that Kurei actually cares about the people around him.

In the anime, Kurei vs Recca ended in a draw with some other stuff I won't spoil happened but I really don't see Recca winning here. Kurei is on another level that Recca won't be until his epic power in the last volume. You know its coming. I predict we see another "Ill let you live for now" ending because that's happened in 90% of the fights we've seen. I thought this was a decent volume but once Recca came back I skipped all the dialogue and only focused on the fight and anything related. I didn't care about what the crowd was talking about. Also, Recca's entrance was trash. That was way too predictable. So if you saw Jisho come out Kurei would you stay to watch the fight or go home where things are safe?
