The Flash Review - S3 Ep 1: "Flashpoint"
Ah, we get it now. Took until the end of the episode, but we got it. This season is going to be The Butterfly Effect with super powers.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I just love this show in general. I'm glad it's back!

As the episode opens, we get a glimpse into Barry's new life. He has apparently been experiencing this new timeline for three whole months now. (It's kind of funny that everything comes to a breaking point in a day, but that's okay, we'll let that slide.) He's got such a good life going with his parents they have to remind him that he's grown and needs to move out. Cisco's a billionaire, we find out that Caitlin's an opthamologist (of course she is), and Reverse Flash is locked up. Barry gloats somewhat as he brings Eobard some food, and gloating is always a bad sign from Care Bear. But the biggest changes are with the Wests.

Wally is The Flash. But everybody really thinks of him as Kid Flash and it's hilarious. Barry also rather ironically has to re-introduce himself to Iris, but when he does, sparks fly. Some way too fast and way too plot convenient sparks! She instantly falls in love with him and trusts him implicitly. We find the biggest change in Joe...apparently without the need to raise Barry, Iris and Wally turn out just fine but Joe's a drunk. And perpetually hungover and late for work. Wowzers.

Kid Flash can't beat his nemesis The Rival on his own, but he's convinced he can. After getting his butt handed to him, Barry intrudes on their lives again. He tells Wally that he knows who he is, and meets up with Iris again at the Flash Lair. Not too long afterward he reveals himself to Iris, Wally and Cisco as the Flash from the original timeline. He then explains Flashpoint. And kidnaps Caitlin. Barry's well-meaning, but it's like he doesn't learn anything. And clearly cares nothing for the "secret" part of "secret identity."
The best scenes all episode are once again between Flash and Reverse Flash. Seems like Eobard always has the best lines. He explains what's happening as Barry begins to lose his memory. The other timeline, the one we know from Seasons 1 & 2, is disappearing. Soon Barry himself won't be able to remember it, or the fact that he has superspeed. After Wally gets critically injured and his speed powers don't heal him, Barry realizes what he's done. He's created his own personal utopia, but at the cost of his friends and family's wellbeing. He doesn't want to live with that, and Reverse Flash's prophecy comes true. Barry asks him to go back in time yet again and kill Nora. Poor Nora. It never gets easier watching her die. Eobard kills her and zooms Barry back home. All is restored.
But there's a catch.
And that catch is what we're going to see play out all over the season. The catch is, it's not exactly like it was before. We discover that Joe and Iris are estranged. Which means now, that no matter how many times Barry goes back in time, when he creates a new timeline, it'll never be the old one. That's gone, and something different will now always pop up. It's like Reverse Flash told him...Barry doesn't really know what he's doing.

But it's going to be fun to watch!
