As a solid 7 member group, CLC have released their fourth mini album. This album was the make or break album for me as the group was once my favorite rookie group but quickly declined after the addition of Eun Bin and Elkie and a very lackluster third mini album. If this album failed, I was out for good.
So we start with the title track No Oh Oh which surprised me. I honestly thought it would be another train wreck but it was really good. The production is reminiscent of High Heels with some Pepe flavor. They obviously went back to their roots with this track here and it worked. I was hooked from the first listen. The chorus really does this song justice because for a while in the beginning it keeps building up to something but never finished until the chorus. Vocally the song is straight and Yeun raps and sings so my heart was satisfied, Sorn needed a solo though. The song is catchy and a good listen.
So going into the album I'm quite happy but anything can happen. The first song is What Planet Are You From which is a very light and smooth track. It reminds me of the songs that were on First Love. The beat really compliments the girls voices, This may be my favorite song. The third song is One, Two, Three and it keeps the fun atmosphere going as the second song was the title track.
Day By Day begins the later half of the album which features the girls voices in action against even lighter beats with some heartfelt lyrics. These songs were hard to get into at first due to the first half being upbeat tracks but I've grown to really enjoy these songs. "Its Too Late" is my favorite of the three because it has this very serious tone to it but it isn't a lengthy ballad song. Yeun is proving to be a strong rapper. Her verses are always entertaining and even on Its Too Late she's able to find her place in a song for singers.
As I've listened to this album several times I have to give it a solid 3.2 out of 5. I enjoyed all of the songs, the production wasn't all over the place, and everything just worked. It was a genius call to name this album Nu.Clear because its CLC going back to their roots but with a new style. If CUBE producers would keep the beat production of songs like Pepe and No Oh Oh with the fun atmosphere like the songs from Question, CLC would be a force to be reckoned with. CLC need more upbeat songs like Pepe that are catchy, shows off their vocal and rap abilities, and are memorable. If this is done CLC would be back to their former glory. Hopefully their next project is better and we see more sides from them. My love for CLC was saved with this release.
