Comic Review: The Adventures of Wally Fresh #3

Written and Illustrated by: Turner Lange
Publisher: Rosarium
Release Date: March 16, 2016

The Adventures of Wally Fresh follow Wally Fresh who recently got a new roommate in the form of a talking beaver. Previously Wally's and his date Crystal were attacked by hipsters, because that's what hipsters do. Meanwhile his beaver roommate Barry is out looking for shrooms. Meanwhile Wally has been kidnapped and held hostage by his date who has a dirty past of her own.

Through flashbacks it is revealed that Wally's date, Crystal, is a crazy woman. It's that simple, she's crazy and she cuts off men's dicks before murdering them. It's that simple, she's crazy. She previously managed to escape and avoid ending up in jail and Wally is her come back victim. Meanwhile Wally's neighbor Valerie comes to the realization that she might actually love him and may be inadvertently cock blocking him because she "didn't mean to block his cock, I was just trying to protect his cock." After purchasing shrooms from Crystal they realize they need to go save Wally.

If you aren't reading this review as quick as possible to emulate my excitement, you're reading it wrong. Go back to the top and start again. One of my favorite things about Wally Fresh is the unapologetically crude humor. At one point Valerie tells a store clerk to "jerk off," only for him to respond "believe me, I intend to." That's just crude and I found myself legitimately laughing out loud because it's a joke I would make with friends. That's the thing about Wally Fresh it doesn't read like a comic book story. Instead it seems more like a friend just telling you a story.

This is third part of a four part story so a lot of things are being pushed forward since all of the major players are now on the field. Even with the story being so serious, it's a funny book. I think that helps make it a lot more enjoyable. Forcing Wally to answer pop culture questions that "you know the answers to but are too afraid to say in public," is just random and funny.

When it comes to art, the easiest way to describe it is that it's similar to The Walking Dead comics but much cleaner. There's also a big emphasis on body language and facial expressions. Facial expressions are actually some of my favorite moments. I've never seen a "I fucked up," face drawn so beautifully before. It's a random thing but I also enjoy how almost every major action has a sound effects included in the illustration, especially when it's in a similar style to the action, such as when Crystal crushes the court podium.

I don't get paid to do these reviews, so you can take my word on this. The Adventures of Wally Fresh is all around awesome. If you listen to our CP Time Podcast or enjoy our YouTube videos, you'll enjoy Wally Fresh. It's a similar kind of humor to ours because there are moments when you'll be asking yourself "did they really just say that?" It's definitely worth your time and for a $1.99 you should go ahead and pick it up.
