4TEN - Jack Of All Trades Album Review

Rookie Girl group 4TEN have released their debut mini album. The girls debuted in 2014 with the single "Tornado". Early 2015 they released their second single "Why". Before releasing their third single "Go Easy", two members would leave the group and 3 more would join, also changing their name to Poten. Before Jack Of All Trades was released, one of the members left, leaving 4 members and them changing their name back to 4TEN. Jack Of All Trades consists of 5 songs. Going into this album I was expecting a lot. Not so much of them changing the game or charting super high but delivering good music and making a name for themselves. With this release, that doesn't really happen.

Teaser images depicted the girls as Disney Princesses but that was not incorporated into the music video for "Severely" so that went to waste. The song itself is mildly decent. Its a god listen but nothing that will last longer. I usually expect this from lead singles so I didn't expect much from it from the get go. The song is about severely needing this guys love. The lyrics are pretty decent but nothing really stands out. The music video has nice colors and shots but the story is not there.

Moving onto the rest of the album I was really looking forward to it. The first song is Tornado but it is a revamped version with the current 4 members. Next is Severely, then OOO, and to finally finish the album off, revamped versions of Go Easy and Why>3 of these songs are old but revamped but nothing really changes. Same lyrics and sound, just pretty much voice overs. This hurts the album because these songs should have been left alone. The new members replacing the old members on these songs only makes it worse because we've gotten so used to a certain flow that the new version doesn't sit so well. Especially when it comes to TEM's rapping. She had a distinct flow that the current rapper can't compete with.

Now this doesn't mean the songs are bad but what we needed was something new. Not something that keeps us dangling onto the past. Sad to say, but this mini album is a waste. There are only two new songs and the rest are filler. This should  have been a single with just OOO and Severely. Music wise it isn't that bad. OOO and Severely are good but not much to talk about. The vocals were solid but not memorable and the rapping needs to be more tight and genuine. If 4TEN wants to stay relevant they need to produce new and better songs to get rid of the bad taste that this will leave. I rate this album a 2/5. I am a 4TEN fan and will always support them but things need to change.
