4Minute - Act.7 Album Review

4minute have released their anticipated 7th mini album Act.7. This album consists of 4 songs plus the instrumental to the lead single Hate. Before I talk about the whole album, lets talk  about Hate and the music video. Hate is a good song. There is no denying this. But it isn't as good as it could have been, or should be. The song starts out with Gayoon singing and I was hooked from there. HyunA starts to rap and I;m really enjoying the song. The beat seems to be setting up for more of a ballad song with high vocals or a nice beat drop. The entire time I know its a hip hop and EDM song but I'm forgetting that at the moment. The beat drops and we get what is the chorus to Hate.

Now the chorus is not bad. It isn't as hype or fun as I thought it would be but its good. The downfall to the chorus is that it feels like an entirely different song. You've got the verses which sounds like a really good song that could have been an amazing ballad, pop like song but the chorus is trying to be a hip hop number all by itself. It also has no actual words besides "I Hate You". The beat is nice and all but this song is incomplete. Its two songs meshed together and it just feels weird. Still a good song as the production is great.

No Love is the next song after Hate and its my favorite. This song saves the mini album for me. No Love has the girls stating that they want no more love because they are losing too much in their relationships. This song is very melodic in its beat. there so much going on but it comes together for a masterpiece of a song. The Trap, HipHop, and EDM mashed make a really good song. The lyrics are good and the raps are tight. HyunA, Jiyoon, and Sohyun wrote so the lyrics are genuine. No Love is a very solid song. Blind is next and at this point you can tell that the last two songs are the same as No Love and Hate. this album has a consistent theme with Trap and EDM.

Blind is about not caring for this dude anymore. They are fed up with his shit and are blind to his actions. I love the title because it really fit with the lyrics and the composition. Canvas is just a sweet song. They want a canvas with just the two of them to blend together. I love the lyrics because it reads like a poem. It reminds me of Crazy, with its synths, but with a more toned down and spaced out rhythm.

Now I wanted this album to be full length because its been 5 years since they had a full length album. Upon the first listen I felt disappointed. The album is only four songs. Regardless, their producers have made a canvas (no pun intended), that the girls have used to paint their colors. The album has a consistent theme and never strays from it. A full length album with this sound would definitely be album of the year. 4minute have always been able to try new styles. What's My Name was the start of incorporating hip hop, Crazy introduced EDM and Hate accepted a mix of Trap and EDM. I give this album a rating of 4/5.
