Calm Down Angry Nerd

So I run the Blerds Online twitter account and most of the time it's pretty funny. I prefer to tweet screenshots of anime I'm watching, a funny meme, a screenshot from a comic, a thread about old superhero movies, beg Fox to let me handle the next Fantastic 4 movie. #TellFoxToHireDarrell. Yet, there's a lot of people would much rather argue and test the nerd credibility of others.

I'm just not an angry nerd. Maybe I was when I was younger, but I'm 23 now. I don't see the need to fight about being a nerd. It's kind of ridiculous. I also don't have an urge to test people's nerd knowledge. If someone is wrong, just say "hey, this is actually what happened," there's no need to be an asshole about it. You can also disagree without being an asshole about.

Someone, who shall not be named, responded to a week old post claiming I was hating on Ta-Nehisi Coates for getting a job at Marvel. I get home from class and he's sent me 6 tweets and did another 16 without mentioning me over six hours while I was in class and at work. Then he goes on to tell me I need to grow up and let it go before calling me a "Nerdy Ass Chuck D," because apparently I want an all black planet. I will give him credit for that one, it was funny. I've been using "Nerdy Ass Chuck D" as an alias since then. But, despite him telling me to let it go, he went on his podcast and did a half hour rant about me and the whole Blerds Online organization so I used the clips in a youtube video. I honestly thought it was done until someone tweeted the Blerds Online account and asked if he was tweeting about us. He was. Can't shake the guy and he's old enough to be my father. I do thank him for the fact that ever since that day we've gotten about 300 more daily visitors so he made people aware of us and they enjoyed the content. I hope he tweets about us again.

On another occasion I tweeted that Fantastic 4 was better than Age of Ultron. No lie, a guy I actually used to look up to for his podcast and website somehow came to the conclusion that I wasn't really black and my opinion didn't count because I never got beat up for being a blerd. Thing is, he didn't read the tweet before or after. He would have known they were jokes. I really did like his show and he's done this twice now. I hate to quote Drake but "It bothers me when the gods get to acting like the broads, guess every team doesn’t come complete with niggas like ours, that's why I see no need to compete with niggas like y’all." Maybe the third time, because there will be one, I'll set him straight, but for now all I can do is thank him because we gained like 50 followers between those days. There's no reason for me to be upset.

I just can't be that angry. Sometimes I troll people who are angry. I once tweeted about how Luke Skywalker was the worst Jedi to ever pick up a lightsaber. Of course people got mad, so I started trolling them. I told them Jar Jar Binks was the best Star Wars character ever. Everyone knows Jar Jar sucked but Star Wars super fans can be annoying. It's not the first time I've done this to someone. I've had to lie about how Green Arrow could beat a whole Avengers team just because people were angry. I get joy from this and a lot of other people do too.

I can't be angry about nerd stuff. It's for enjoyment. There's no need to go to war for it. I've even taken up the response of telling people to duel me in the Shadow Realm if they're serious about it. I can't be angry about nerd stuff because I'm already angry about enough random stuff.

You can hear Darrell on the CP Time and Powerbomb Jutsu podcasts. He also plays classic arcade games on The Cabinet
Darrell S.

Hey, I write stuff, a lot of different stuff, that's all.

  1. I feel like it's cool to get excited or passionate but to not be able to separate jokes from real opinions is sad. They tare too much pride in trying to prove how much they know which doesn't matter

    1. They're just going to have to stay mad while I get these jokes off about how Luke is a lame Jedi
