Top 5 Boss Fights

We've reached a point where a lot of games don't have boss fights anymore. That's a shame. A boss fight always helped you feel as if you had accomplished something. You work your way through a level protecting your last life just in case you needed it. Then you get to the boss that pushes you just to the brink of breaking just before you finally conquer it. When it's finally beaten you breathe a sigh of relief and feel as if you had truly accomplished something. I decided to put together 5 of the best boss fights of all time.

5. Shadow of The Colossus - Valus 

This boss isn't on the list because of difficulty, it's because I was simply shocked. Way back on PS2 at the time I had never seen a boss like this. You approach it an it just keeps looking bigger and bigger. The scale of this boss is ridiculous. You're staring down some hairy stone giant bear minotaur looking beast with some kind of strange war hammer. The balconies on it's back were convenient but it was the first boss in the game so you're taking it on feeling frustration and confusion.

4. Arkham Asylum - Scarecrow

This was not a hard boss. It wasn't even really that important to the story. The build up was brief and it's still one of the most memorable boss fights in the last decade. You're just playing the game and Batman starts to mumble and before you realize it you're in a full blown hallucination. You don't end up in some random fight with a scary looking scarecrow. No, you're trapped in this maze and if you're caught by his gaze he injects you with an overdose of fear toxin. It's a mind bending fight especially because it continues through several more games.

3. God of War 3 - Kronos

I think I just like really big bosses. Kratos was tired of killing Gods so he decided to kill a Titan or something like that. Either way Kronos was huge. A boss so big that you had to fight giants on his body. A boss so big that he actually swallows you hole at one point. In the end you don't even kill Kronos. He does it to himself by accident because Kratos can't hurt him except with the Sword of Olympus that doesn't really do much to Kronos even from the inside out.

2. God of War 3 - Poseidon

Yeah, I didn't want to put two GOW boss fights but I had to. You see boss fights is some the series does well from the very first Hydra. Boss battles that span the entire levels like the Colossus of Rhodes. One of those best level spanning boss fights is Poseidon. I love studying mythology and I still don't get why horses are included in something Poseidon has dominion over, but they were in there. This boss battles spreads across the whole level and features other random enemies. It's equal parts fun and frustrating. Opening the game with the battle right where the second left off and including Titans. It was crazy.

1. Mass Effect 3 - Rannoch Reaper

So I never played Mass Effect because I didn't have an Xbox. Therefore I had to do the interactive comic to make my choices. Now there comes a point in the game where you have to fight a reaper. I assumed the reapers where in the alien ships. I had fought the human reaper, it wasn't that big. I even survived the suicide mission with everyone alive. I had not comprehended the reapers were the ships. I had not comprehended the size of them. I had killed a Thresher Maw. I thought it was extreamly large. This reaper, ridiculous, ginormous, gargantuan and any other descriptors for big as fuck you can think of.  It wasn't even a long fight. It was just a "Woah, this shit just got real," moment.
