Jinn - Kotosabi no Ki Album Review

Another Edition of Vintage Reviews

Kotosabi no Ki is the first mini album released by Japanese Rock Band Jinn in 2006. This was their debut album which captured my soul. After listening to this album I fell in love with Jinn. This band along with Bivattchee made me a fan of Japanese rock. Jinn's alternative style and signature indie flow gives you a chill yet powerful look into their music.

For only six songs this album is a powerhouse of sound. what it lacks in songs it makes up for with how great each song is. I first heard jinn back in 2007 when Raion was used as the 4th opening for the anime Blood+. It wasn't until 2010 when I first started to listen to Japanese music. I heard Sou no Te, the first song on Kotosabi no Ki, and fell completely in love with Jinn. Sou no Te is about finding the meaning of life and if we do find it, will we be contempt?

The next song Sukeeru or Scale is one of the songs where Jinn goes for a more harder sound like Sou no Te but both unlike the rest of the album which is pretty mellow. Otenkiame which is one of my favorite Jinn songs is amazing. Its pretty upbeat and is able to put you in a laid back mood. I can not find the lyrics for it. For the life of me, I can't explain the song but I know the meaning. That's Jinn's spell. You might not understand the lyrics but you know what it means. This album is one of my faves because of that.

The mood of the album is hard to explain. All of the songs including Etobira are upbeat yet Tsukikage and Ko-shu-so have a sad or more emotional mood to it. Jinn's music is truly amazing from the lyrics down to the instrumentals. You can really feel the soul in their music. I really recommend this album. Every song is amazing. I can not pick a favorite on the album but Sou no Te and Otenkiame are fighting for that place. This is a must listen to for all music fans.
