HyunA - A+ Album Review

Queen of sexiness HyunA of girl group 4Minute is back with her 4th mini album "A+". Before I get into the album I want to talk about the lead single "Because I'm The Vest" featuring BTOB's Ilhoon. The actual song in my opinion isn't that good. It feels all over the place and doesn't have structure. In the beginning it was cool with HyunA's rapping but once it hit the chorus, it just got weird from there. Ilhoon's rap was actually pretty good but it didn't help the song. It actually is pretty forgettable as a whole. The music video is "cool" to some extent but that's it. It also had no structure. All of Ilhoon's shots kept switching back and forth and there were not many still shots of just one scene. Like I said the music video is "cool" but that's it. I don't want to say this is HyunA's worst song but it is very forgettable. I felt like all the hype was for nothing. She was supposed to be so risque but it wasn't really much. A lot of the more "sexual" scenes weren't much. I'm a guy and I love when we get good poses and what not but this was just overdone in the video. This music video was just for fun in my opinion. Nothing to take away from it.

The intro song "Run & Run" did what it was supposed to do. It opened up the album and it a good job at only 1:31. It has a soft beat that welcomes you before the lead track "Because I'm The Best". Ice Ice featuring rising rapper Yuk Jidam was a bit disappointing. Jidam is known for having amazing presence on the mic and can really get you into a song as well as having good and witty lyrics. A lot of that was not there. Her tone was pretty mellow and deeper than usual. Her presence was barely there. I thought that this song would be a hip hop number because HyunA and Yuki Jidam are both rappers. IT was over a electropop beat which wasn't bad because I enjoyed it but I feel as if that is what killed Jidam. She is used to hip hop and ballad songs. This was a first pop like song and she wasn't able to make the beat hers like she usually does. Nonetheless it still is a pretty decent song.

The next song is"Get Out Of My House" featuring Kwon Jung Yeol of 10cm. This song was really good. I enjoyed every second of it. It is slowed down compared to the previous tracks and is able to give me a solid feeling as well as a song in general. The love in the relationship is gone and she no longer wants him in her house anymore. The last song is "Peace" which is the longing of peace in a relationship. This is the most calmest song here and HyunA showcases her best vocals on singing. It doesn't even sound like her but it is. A+ was to show HyunA's growth as an artist. The last two songs are proof of that but the others re not. Its just same old HyunA which is fine. I'm rating this album a 3/5. I was disappointed in some of the content but it was a decent turn out overall.

  1. Great review, the single could have been memorable if it wasn't so pretentious. At least she has left us 'Get Out Of My House', one of the best songs of this year.
