I know people like to win, myself included. But, that's not really my goal. I play games for the enjoyment. I never got the guy who unplugs the system or resets the wifi router because he's about to lose his perfect record. I've never been the guy to want number one on the world records. Nobody is perfect except the 72 Dolphins and the Dolphins didn't even make the playoffs in 74.
As long as I'm enjoying the game I'm fine. Sure there have been times that I've been so frustrated I quit, ask me about the Hydra in God of War. Sure I could just turn down the difficulty but that would take away from the moment. Part of the enjoyment is that moment when you finally complete a challenge and breathe a sigh of relief.
There's also other aspects of games that I'm good at. Sure, you might blow me out in 2K, but I can build a team of nobodies and role players into a serviceable playoff contender. I'm more likely to be running association mode than myPlayer, but that's just me. I love games where you have to employ strategy. Don't get me wrong, I love to run in shooting but I'd much rather pick you off one by one. It's why I love the Arkham series of Batman games. Sure, I could come in and just fight 14 guys with guns or I can stalk them and slowly pick them off.
Stories are what really drives me to games. A good story is like an interactive book. An open ended story is even better. It's like choose your own adventure series. Multiple saves are like sticking your finger in the page and saying "Nah, I didn't move on yet." The visuals and open worlds is another great reason to love video games.
I know that no matter bad I am at games. No matter how much I refuse to just play on easy mode. I'll always been drawn to them. There's more to winning and being good at a games. I'm going to be bad, but I'll have much more fun than you will trying to be ranked number one in the world. Leave a comment and let me know if you suck at games. Now, if you excuse me I have some barrels to kick.
