Monica Rambeau
Monica comes from New Orleans, Louisiana. After college she joined the police department and rose to become lieutenant of the Harbor division. Then she got fired on her day off. Against orders she helped a scientist track down a dictator who was planning to use a machine the scientist created to take control of the United States. In an attempt to disrupt the plan Monica tried to destroy the machine but was overpowered her with extra-dimensional energy. She became able to turn her body into forms of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum.
She began using her powers to stop crime around Louisiana and the South in general. The media named her Mrs. Marvel. This was her first superhero name in a long line of them. Eventually her powers started to grow beyond what she believed she was capable of. She was becoming so powerful that she began having trouble control them. She had heard about a scientist named Reed Richards so she headed to New York for help. She couldn't find Reed, who was probably off destroying another dimension. Instead she found Spider-Man. Spider-Man took her to The Avengers. Spider-Man figured out her problem was her powers giving off fluctuating energy levels. Iron Man then build her a suit that would help stabilize them.
Monica decided to stick around for a while and become an Avenger. Eventually she became a field commander for The Avengers. She's just that good. When the team tried to prevent Marina Smallwood from becoming a leviathan, Monica released as much energy as she could. Monica couldn't use her powers for a while after. She was also briefly bed ridden, then upgraded to a wheel chair before returning to normal. She had simply overexerted herself. Eventually she returned to duty but her heart wasn't in it. She chose to become a reserve member and do some soul searching to decide if she was still interested in being an Avenger.
Genis-Vell is the son of the original Captain Marvel in the Marvel universe not to be confused with Shazam who was previously known as Captian Marvel in the DC Universe. Genis-Vell started calling himself Captain Marvel and Monica did not like that. Then he joined the Avengers and she really was not happy. She told him to give up the name, but he wanted to keep it to pay homage to his father. There's some family drama there so I don't see why he wants it. Eventually Monica just lets him have the name because she decided to call herself Photon. That's name number 2.
I really think Genis-Vell is just a hater. Once he remembered that he hated his father he just changed his name to Photon. That's Monica's name again. She confronts him and calls him out. She tells him next time he steals a name from her it'll be a serious issue. She's really too nice. She changes her naem to Pulsar this time. That's number 3 and it happened less than a year after the last one.
Monica continued using the name Pulsar for almost a year. Eventually she decided she was officially done with the Avengers. She left the team and the name Pulsar there. She told people to just call her Monica Rambeau because she's real like that. It's her real name but also her 4th superhero name. After leaving The Avengers she joined Nextwave. Nextwave was a superpowered squad in the Highest Anti-Terrorism Effort. Also known as H.A.T.E. Their mission was to fight the Unusual Weapons of Mass Destruction. Monica got annoyed with her teammates always asking her what it was like to be part of The Avengers so she started naming her attacks and yelling them out so she didn't have to hear them.
Eventually Monica was finally able to be a solo operative for Nextwave. She moved back to New Orleans where she teams up with Blade, Black Panther, Luke Cage and Brother Voodoo. Consider this the first time Marvel tried the all black Avengers team. Monica and Brother Voodoo start a relationship where they sleep together but don't really have much of a relationship. It's a booty call relationship I guess. Anyway, the team comes together to take down a vampire cult.
When Civil War comes around Monica is recruited by Captain America and joins the Secret Avengers. After the Civil War Monica goes to Hell. She goes to Hell with Firestar and Black Cat to save Heelcat from her ex-husband Hell Storm. The ladies were stomping out domestic violence. Literally they stomped him out and he deserved it.
Later Monica teams up with Carol Danvers, who is currently using the Captain Marvel name. Monica couldn't do anything but laugh. The two investigate a spot in New Orleans where ships continuously crash. They found out the area is guarded by an army of robots that a villain made. However, the villain died before either of them were either born. They were fighting ghost basically. Eventually the two managed to take down the robots.
When The Avengers left to fight The Builders and shortly before Thanos attacked Monica went to New York to test out a new suit at the superhero costume store because there is one of them. While testing out the suit she stopped a bank robbery and the police called her Spectrum. She had never called herself that but she liked the name. Thus, Spectrum became her 5th superhero name. When she returns the costume Blade is in the alley whispering "Hey come here." because he wasn't supposed to be in the country at the time. Monica is annoyed that he showed up to ask about some vampires.
Suddenly they hear explosions outside. Monica tells Blade she'll help him if he helps her and he dresses up as Spider-Hero. They get to Manhattan where they run into Luke Cage and Spider-Man (This one is Doc Octopus). Spider-Man is annoyed that these black people come in and clean house especially after he tried to lecture Luke Cage about Heroes for Hire earlier. The team is forced into battle with Thanos general Proxima. When Monica is injured Luke defends her with his impenetrable skin. Eventually Blue Marvel shows up when it starts to get sticky. Soon Luke's Heroes for Hire show up and Powerman II names the team Mighty Avengers. Except Fox News Spider-Man because Doc Octopus is a fan of casual racism. The team sticks together after Thanos failed invasion and Monica becomes the filed leader when Luke isn't around. Doc Oct still follows them around in Peter's body.

She quit cuz she didn't get promoted. Her first superhero name is Capt. Marvel. Monica became a Chairman not a field leader per se. It also involved running the whole mansion and staff. Genis is not an official Avenger, he was on an off shoot roster for Avengers Forever. In NEXTWAVE she was written that her teammates where annoyed at her for always bringing up her time with the Avengers. Writer's prerogative in shouting her attacks. The police never called her Spectrum. She named herself. Doc Spider-Man was not annoyed at the black people, White Tiger was there. He was annoyed at something else.
