Asian Artist & America

As you know I listen to a lot of Japanese and Korean music. You may also know that I still listen to American music but not that much due to the poor mistreatment of music. Mostly in the Hip Hop genre. The others are fine. What I'm here to talk about today is how some of these Asian artist try to break into the American Market. Its not a good thing.

The Asian Artist that try to break into the American Market are usually the ones that have made it big at the top of their country and another country. What I mean is the artist would be a legend in Korea and a top star in Japan. Those are the artist I'm talking about. They figure that since they conquered their market why not the US. That's where you need to stop. The American market isn't what you think it is. Yes there are countless one hit wonders who manage to hit fame and linger on, but they eventually fall of.

CL is a South Korean female rapper. She is currently preparing for her American Debut. I love CL but I am scared for her. Hip Hop here is hard. Especially if you are a female. All the female rappers we have are either decent or really trash. Look at Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azaela. They can rap but their lyrics are always trash and they call them selves bitches. I doubt CL will do what they do but at the same time you never know. If CL wants fame then she better take notes. But is she wants listeners she needs to do what she has always done. Yet that is a problem as well.

CL may be a rapper but she is not a hard rapper. She writes her own lyrics but most of the time they aren't really hard hitting. MTBD and The Baddest Female are her only solo songs. If you didn't know she is apart of a 4 person group called 2NE1. Those songs are great and
would be good in America but she needs to come harder than that. She can not approach the american market with the Korean polite style. She needs to down right attack it.

But that's just how I feel about CL. There are others that tried and failed and one who is rumored to try. BoA the queen of Korean music is a legend in Korean and Japanese music. She released an American album back in 2009. It failed. It was a good album but it only did well due to her success in Japan and Korea. Those fans are what made the album rank high on certain music billboards. She made American fans but not nearly as enough.

Namie Amuro a Japanese artist is the love of my life. She is the Queen of Hip-Pop (Hip Hop and Pop) in Japan. She is currently the best selling female Japanese artist and has been for the last 23 years. She released one album in English. The album Uncontrolled which came out in 2011 had 7 songs in English and the last six in Japanese. It was never released in America as an American debut. It was just an album with songs she wanted to sing in English. Despite this it actually did well on American charts. It went Double Platinum in Japan. It is 2015 and Ms Amuro has decided to leave her label Avex Trax and peruse her own label Dimension Point. It is rumored that she was approached by an american label to persue a debut in English. That sounds great especially since if it does happen she will tour The US and come to my city of Chicago and I will die because I am madly in love with her but it sucks. Namie Amuro can speak fluent English but her accent is strong and sometimes she doesn't sound too good. Also she is 38 years old so touring in a different environment is going to take a toll on her body. I love her but I know her debut will fail.

No artist from Korea or Japan has had a successful debut in America. That doesn't mean it can't happen but it just hasn't. Now let's talk about collaborations. I don't like when Asian artist try to go out of there comfort zone because it never works but there is another way. Collaborations are a good example of this. Korean Rapper G Dragon has a song called Nirlia with Missy Elliot. Korean rapper Jay Park has a song called Success Crazed featuring Trinidad James. Twista was even on a song with a Korean rapper I can't think of. Namie Amuro sung Left Eye's parts on Waterfall for TLC's 20th anniversary. Those songs were great. I don't think there needs to be a debut in america but collaborations are the next best thing. The American Market is not in a stable position right now so debuting here is not encouraged.
