WWE might be over for me. I know a lot of people swear they're done because their favorite wrestler doesn't win. I've even made jokes about being done on Powerbomb Jutsu. I spent 4 months just reading results and watching the PPVs. But, I never stopped. I think I might be done for real. I'm not done with pro wrestling because I enjoy it. But WWE, may no longer be in the pro wrestling diet. There's too many things wrong with it and there's too many options that are better.
I first started watching wrestling just in time for the first TLC match so I've been in this for a while. WWE has been part of my life for a while now. But I've grown tired of it. I'm not one of those weirdos who is going to complain that it's bad because its PG now, because I can still laugh at The Wonderful World of Gumball. I'm also not going to complain about how every match isn't a blood bath because that doesn't matter to me. Allow me to lay out a few reasons why I'm finished.
If you look at WWE it's obviously they use stereotypes as gimmicks and the basis for characters still. That's stupid and they look even stupider because if you look around at other wrestling companies, nobody else is doing that in 2015. TNA has Bobby Lashley, MVP, and Kenny King in a stable. They're all black. None of them dance, use exaggerated ebonics or "just like to have fun." If you look at Ring of Honor Jay Lethal and ACH are serious competitor and one of the top talents but aren't forced to be portrayed as stereotypes. Shelton Benjamin is literally the only black person on the NJPW roster. Is he a stereotype or special attraction? Nope. But, the stereotypes and minority wrestlers not getting a fair shake isn't the only issue.
They insult your intelligence. We get it, we're watching a scripted show. We suspend disbelief for a few hours and watch actors play characters. But, don't pretend we're stupid. Don't have to people be bitter rivals one day and best friends the next. This is a constant thing in WWE. One day Big Show is feuding with Mark Henry. The next they're a tag team. John Cena and Randy Orton have been a constant example of this. The term frienemies could be used, but they don't acknowledge the past. In fact the only time the past is mentioned it's due to someone like Hulk Hogan or Roddy Piper coming in for a brief appearance.
By this point we've already heard the interview with Vince McMahon. He complained that none of the younger wrestlers are trying to become top stars. It's their fault if the crowd doesn't like them. That's the only reason why a person wouldn't be popular. Let's be honest. The writing is horrible, that's a reason. When someone like Zack Ryder does manage to become popular, or someone like Christian that fans have always liked, they get pushed down because it's not who Vince wants at the top. How do they get pushed down? Losing streaks, poor writing. Vince is out of touch with everyone, not just adults but the children too. He's got no interest in making new stars. As much as we all love Tyson Kidd, Cesaro, Kofi Kingston, Sami Zayn etc. It's just not going to happen until Vince is gone.
Next, they talk to much and don't wrestle enough. Every show starts with half an hour of talking. There's 15 minutes of talking and replays between every match. By the end of Raw we've had 8 matches with most being under 10 minutes, 40 replays of things that happened 5 minutes ago. 2 hours of talking in circles without progressing the story (Unless it's one week before a pay per view), 14 plugs for the app and 28 for the network. This same structure rolls over to every other show except NXT (about the only thing positive right now).
I don't hate WWE. It's impossible after watching for hundreds of hours, dozens of live shows, and countless memories of growing up watching with my dad. It's just that there's a ton of better wrestling out there and I don't have the time to watch it all. So you make sacrifices. The things you don't enjoy you cut out. I just don't enjoy WWE anymore. Maybe sometime in the future I'll come to enjoy it again, maybe I won't. But for now, I just need a break.
