A lot of people have been bullied before. I'm not talking about cyber bullying, I'm talking real life. Weather it's some kid from middle school, an older sibling or cousin, it's most likely happened to you at some point. Isao Akia is someone who has been bullied. He just has one of those faces that makes people want to bully him. In fact he was bullied so much he spent an entire summer training to beat his bullies. Do you know what happened when he did beat them? He got transferred to a new school just to get bullied again.
Isao refused to be bullied in his new school so he attempted to stand up for himself, only he learned it wouldn't be that easy. In his new school, the bullies are part of a group called The 9 Dragons, who all had super powers. This is not a joke, these guys are dangerous. I'm not sure why Isao didn't just transfer out. Instead he teams up with his classmate Tien Lung, a former member of The 9 Dragons, to create the Bully Eater club and take on The 9 Dragons. Eventually the duo is joined my favorite character Shin Yoshito, a former boxer. Seriously, Shin is awesome, so much rage, so much power.
I wanted to call the art in Bully Eater weird, but that would imply it's bad. It's not. So instead I'll go with unique. The art is a lot smoother than other battle manga which gives it a style of it's own. On top of that Shading and texture play a HUGE part of the art in Bully Eater. White space is kept to just above minimum and everything is shaded. There's a such thing as over shading but somehow Rayme3000 manages to keep it looking smooth and appealing to the eyes. Most characters have some texture added to their design weather it be hair shirt or pants. Again this doesn't take anything away. Each character is already unique and the textures just add an additional aspect. When I say characters are unique I really mean that, no two characters look similar. No similar hair styles, clothing, facial structures or build. You could look at just a silhouette and be able to identify each character.
Character's back stories are also flushed out rather well. Similar to Apple Black, we're not going to be waiting for long periods of time wondering about a characters back story. We're going to get it early and it's going to be detailed. Saturday AM clearly has another hit on it's hands.
